I was filled with joy as i watched the advert letting us know that the English Top gear will be back on our screens next monday!!!
Dont get me wrong, id rather watch these aussie geeks thrash some cars,
( if thrash is the right word?), than some backyard makeover show.
But the whole series of the australian top gear has been like...........
Buying homebrand fruity rings and trying to tell yourself that they are the real Fruit Loops!!!! Sure its better than nothing but certainly doesnt compare to the original.....

They lack any of the "vibe" between them the original had, it seems forced and not really comfortable..

When even the actors grimace as they spout Aussie vernacular, and screaming like a shopfront spruiker to get points across in "what were they thinking board", with not an original idea in it all want to make me turn it off.

Both times I watched it I was thinking "Aussie top gear - what were they thinking"

Re-runs of the original would be so much better...

also Finalgear works pretty well... as do torrents...

There were a few ok moments, like in the first episode when they nosedived the 4wd over the dune, though would have made much better veiwing if it had of actually rolled[}:)]
They had a porshe, a lambo and a DB9, and not even a puff of smoke from the tyres Barely even heard them pulling any decent rev's, im suprised i didnt see a barina overtake all three.
Heres one for thought though, I rekon if you put our stig up against the original,
our stig would get flogged by a couple of seconds. Maybe its just cause their track is better and isnt made up from a whole bunch of road cones and tyres, but it does seem like thier stig gives thier cars a definate hammering in comparison.

I thought it was vrey funny when they drove on public roads. Trying to make it seem like they were going fast, but were doing the speed limit.
I guess that isn't there fault, but they still shoulda thrashed the cars. And the track looked like something i could have made in a carpark. Or when i was younger the tracks i would make for the R/C car.
They aren't funny, and try too hard to be. They should just be natural. I havn't recognised one of our "stars". They are always yelling.
I know early episode of topgear with the current crew weren't amazing, but they were at least bearable. I can't stand to watch this show.
THIS IS HOW ANNOYING YELLING ALL THE TIME IS. THERE CHALLENGES AREN'T ANY GOOD. AND AGAIN, WHY DO THEY DRIVE SO SLOWLY EVERYWHERE. IT IS A CAR SHOW. NOT A "OH NO HE WAS SPEEDING, LETS GO COMPLAIN TO EVERYONE" SHOW. I THINK IF THEY WANT TO SAVE IT, THEY HAVE TO DITCH THE PRESENTERS, THE TRACK, AND THE STIG (ALSO "WHAT WERE THEY THINKING", I MEAN HONESTLY WHAT WERE THEY THINKING) (end of yelling), and start fresh. Get some better less annoying people on. Get a real track. Stop driving like grannies. And just go with the flow a bit more, instead of it being so awkwardly forced.

Well it looks like there will be another series.

One of my reps had them pass him in the Polly Pipe with a ferwahwee bentwee and aston martian.

They went blasting past him whilst he was sitting on the speed limit, I wonder if they had the tunnel speed cameras operating that day

The Aussie Top Gear was alright. Its much better than the British Top Gear of around 5 years ago. One aspect of Top Gear that is missing from the Aussie version are challenges and races with different sorts of transport. They did it a bit, I remember the one up in the Kimberly but there should have been more.

In Sydney/NSW I could envision the following: Fast car vs plane from Sydney to Newcastle Pelican airport. Fast car vs ferry from Circular Quay to Manly. Yachting from Palm Beach to Cronulla vs a car. A train from Sydney to Melbourne vs a car. That challenge would show how bad the trains are in Australia.

Every other city and state would have similar challenges. How about a car vs windsurfer or kiter from the Ledge to Lancelin?

Yep, if they are doing a second series there is a lot they should work on.

As for your ideas about challenges Moby, my vote is for a car vs kite / windsurfer downwind along one of our many bl**dy brilliant coastal roads.

Oh yes, the real deal was on last nite and after watching it, it was like a completely different show. I mean they even had a gay guy on the show and it was still awesome
Watching the stig in the ferrari, he was drifting that thing all around the track, pushing it HARD.
I think the guys on our show were told " yeah you can borrow this car, BUT any scratches or damage and its comin outta ya wages.......
Lets hope the aussie hopefuls are having a good hard look at how to present a car show that is entertaining............
