This summer, Perth has had consistent afternoon high tides. When does the tide cycle change to morning high tides?

I've been waiting for weeks but the arvo tides just keep on rolling in. Can someone explain why this is?

Murphy's law: you want morning highs, you get arvo highs.

Tides are like big waves that slosh from content to content, affected by the moon, sun, gravity, friction, wind and Greenpat.

They go in cycles which change over time.

I like Pat's explanation, but if you want the high tech scientific answer, this will keep you busy for hours:

When I lived in Qld the tides would shift by about 1 hour every day so within a week, afternoon high tides would turn to afternoon low tides.

This doesn't seem to happen in WA and the high tide appears to remain at about the same time every day for weeks!

Perhaps this is the reason:

(from wiki) The shape of the shoreline and the ocean floor change the way that tides propagate, so there is no simple, general rule for predicting the time of high water from the position of the Moon in the sky.

Perth actually gets a mixed semidiurnal tide, not what it shows there, but I don't know how often it changes over between one cycle of tides a day and two. I think the formula to calculate that is used by Czech taxi drivers to work out the fare from the airport though, they might know...

Speak of the devil, a changeover came on the 7 day forecast overnight. See there on Tuesday, the beginning of 2 lumps instead of one?

Tides are like our cat.
They come in and go out with amazing regularity.

Forget global warming, of far greater concern are these relentless afternoon high tides.

What does it all mean??!

at least you dont have to go far to be dissapointed by the tides.
last month we were supposed to try to sail on a beach at Eucla( 1000km drive ) the dates for the trip were determined by the tide predictions that said that the midday high would be so low that it wasnt worth worrying about. IE we could sail the beach on our landyachts. Only one of the team got there due to s**t happening to the rest of us and the high was so high there was no beach.
That'll teach us to rely on science!!
