Apart from obviously driving the bastard across the nullabor, how much would it cost to get a car on a train from melbourne to perth? Would $1000 be a ball-park figure? More or less? Cheers Dan Roberts
Driving has got to be the best option doesn't it? At least then you can stop of for a surf at Cactus, a kite in Esperance, flip round to Margies on the way up plus any places in SA on the way over.
Take a 3 week holiday to get here and make the most of it.
Yeah...I am actually keen to do that drive especially as I have just bought myself a landrover defender and can hit up all those hard to reach surf spots!! But unfortunately, I only get 6 days off every 2 weeks so won't be able to make the most of it. It's all sorted now though...just have to wait for my toy to arrive! Thanks for the help
I took my car and myself on the IndianPacific about eight years ago and it cost me $450 one way Perth to Adelaide. It is much cheaper if you are on the train, this is a very interesting trip with unemployed people getting the trip for about $38 back then, this leads to some fruitful travel companions. This was also sitting in cattle class. Look into it you may get lucky, only 8 hour drive from Mel to Adel two and a bit days Adel To Perth. This trip across the middle of the Nullaboar ( about 100kms north of the coast road on the train) is a must do before you die amazing trip but can get a bit boring bloody flat. Take some nice herbal remedies.
