Vote no.
Well i do like my nighttime.

My thoughts:
Sun sets earlier - people party longer. (hard to dance when still sunup)
Sun sets earlier - outdoor cinema starts earlier.
Sun sets earlier - cooler evening
School finishes later - cooler trip home, less sun exposure.
Work finishes later - cooler avo.
Sun rises earlier - great for morning exercise for those afraid of the dark.
If you work with the Eastern States and there is no DLS - Start earlier, finish earlier.
If you want more sunlight and there is no DLS - Start earlier, finish earlier.
Most businesses can have flexable times but the government has problems doing that so subject us to new times.

Just an observation but people seem to be more tired at 11pm on DLS time.

Why not just time shift the whole year?

cheers

Gotta love daylight savings
Best invention for wind junkies
I can see the vote failing tho
The no camp are doing the divide and conquor
Finish as planned
Finish 2 weeks earlier
Finish in line with the eastern states???
With 3 options on the ballot, none of them will get up, and the no camp wins
The ballot should stay as a yes or no, or DLS is doomed

I dont see the point in daylight saving during the summer in the west, ya kidding yourself if you think there is not enough daylight already. It makes a whole lot more sense to have it during the winter when we really are short of light.

I think the pro daylight saving camp will win the vote this time.

I didn't think there was a vote this time? Rather the vote is at the end of the 3 year trial...

If all of those against DLS could all gather together on the same afternoon, just to stand on the shore at sunset, they could all enjoy the extra hour of glorious sunshine...

That and we shove all the fools in the ocean in one go!!! [}:)]

The vote is after the 3 year trial, next year.

I think you will find those fools as you call them manage to stand on the beach at sunset very well without daylight saving.

How could any wind/kitesurfers in WA be against it? All the "I like to run after work" or "play with the kids after tea" etc people have no excuse really as they can do that in the morning if they really want. However we can only sail when the seabreeze comes in, and that time has nothing to do with clocks.

If you can't change your work hours, particularly if you finish at 5:00 and have to drive to the water then DLS makes the difference between sailing 4 days a week or zero, zilch, nil unless you are lucky enough to have it blow on the weekend.

Imagine if they put the clock 1 hr the other way, the seabreeze would sometimes be gone by 4pm!!!!

I'm in MOURNING

3 days into the dark ages and I hate it !!!

No sunlight at 6pm and very little at 7am -- at least with DSL there was a bit of light left in the evening before dinner. Now all I wanna do is put my slippers and dressing gown on at 6pm --- I'm feeling old.

Vote YES YES YES next year just to save me from feeling like an old man and getting a rocking chair for the porch..........

I love how people say "Oh daylight savings sux, too much sun, so hot, poor kids, oh I get tired, cows drop dead, blah blah blah."

Daylight savings isn't magic, it doesn't create more sunlight. If its hot its hot. A bit of timeshift isn't going to change that. At least with daylight savings dawn doesn't break at 5am or even earlier in the middle of summer.

Whats there not to like about coming home after work and having a few hours of sunshine to enjoy life?

I'm all for DLS its great

Home from work and time to play with kids in the light, go down beach go to the park. You have a BBQ in the evening and the kids can run around in your sight and not have to be near by cause its dark.

DLS makes sense in many ways i just dont get why there is such resistence to it here, bizarre.

Daylight savings doesn't somehow magically remove mornings. Mornings are still there. The sun will come up before 6am in the middle of summer. So even if you start work at 7.30am you can still get down to the beach for an hour or so.

People are windsurfing into the evening and night so if you enjoy a morning surf, start surfing in the dark and enjoy the break of dawn out on your board.

I've changed my view on DLS this summer.

I used to be pro, but now I'm against it. All it's done is shift the peak wind strength to later in the day. If you've got a young family like I have then chances are you can't sail til dark anyway (gotta get home in time to help put the kids to bed).

I'd rather leave work early and sail the peak wind strength than have to pack up when it's still light and windy!

Like others have said... WA has more than enough hours of daylight without it.

Hey Moby
"it doesn't create more sunlight" - isn't that what DLS is all about?
"If its hot its hot" - in Perth an hour later is cooler in the avo usually.

and Ken
sunrise 6.22 set 6.01 take off your sunglasses. Donno about you but my day doesn't end at sunset.

DLS is good for those that can't arrange different work times for summer.

W@nk3r Liberals - Can't organise a piss up in the proverbial brewery, but can't leave this one alone

"Bill to cut daylight saving trial passes Upper House

An Opposition Bill to cut the daylight saving trial by one year has passed the Upper House.

Under the Bill, introduced by senior Liberal MP Norman Moore, a referendum would have to be held before mid May this year.

The Premier wants the third year of the trial to go ahead as planned, with a referendum to be held mid 2009.

The Bill passed with the support of the Greens, the Nationals and Independent MP Shelley Archer, and will now go to the Lower House for debate.

Mr Moore says he is astonished the Government did not debate the Bill.

"It's never happened before in my time," he said.

"This would have to be the quickest passage of a Bill that I can ever remember. I think they were simply asleep and not taking any notice of what was going on in the house." "

Still gotta pass the lower house, which is Labour contolled.
It's back to hicksville if this one gets through

Poor acoustics blamed for daylight saving vote blunder

The State Government's Leader in the Upper House Kim Chance has blamed poor acoustics in the chamber for failing to hear the Opposition's Daylight Saving Bill being read.

Earlier today, the Opposition's Bill which seeks an immediate halt to the trial and a referendum by next month passed the Legislative Council.

Labor MPs did not oppose the Bill at its Second Reading stage nor did any debate it even though the Government supports the three year trial.

Mr Chance says he did not hear what was happening at the time but it did not matter in any event.

"The fact is the Government had no intention of speaking on the matter," he said.

"It was a nonsense motion, we had nothing to contribute.

"Had I got up and I did have a short speech prepared which would have taken about five minutes I decided not to use it."

The Bill will now go to the Lower House where the Government will use its numbers to vote it down.

STUPID STUPID STUPID... How could they be so stupid... Awe, Cletus, I can no be hear wha he'd say...

It's not poor acustics, it's not stupid, it's careful planning.

The government did not want to go to an election with such a divisive subject as DLS being a potential election loser.

By doing it well clear of the election it can be easily separated issue which won't effect the ALP's chance of return.

Once again I may be wrong

Maybe a little speculative elmo

And, I think it is STUPID STUPID STUPID. If an elected representative cannot or does not represent the people that elected him as he is not able to hear matters which are being discussed, he is clearly not fit for work...
