Whats the closest you can get to actually "SURFING" the wave?
Can this be achieved more by windsurfing or kitesurfing?
What are the pros and cons of wavesailing vs kitesurfing?
By this I dont mean equiptment comparisons.
I ask this only because I see kitesurfers using surfboards without footstraps

Are bodyboards, kneeboards, bodysurfers, dolphins, mals, surfers, windsurfers, surf mats, kiters (with floating boards), surfing the waves?

Many ways to skin a cat!

Definatly surfing is closest.

Then between wavesailing and kitesurfing, the main differences I have found is that wavesailing, you are able to stall the board much more, you can head back into the section and wait for it to wall up. Kiting that is very hard, once the kite is pulling you down the line, its much harder to alter your speed, and almost come to a stop. I found wavesailing, the rig disappears a lot more in comparison to a kite. Also, I found wavesailing you call really go for it a whole lot more as when it goes wrong, you just swim after your rig and waterstart with a grin on your face and you are ok. Kiting, when the kite went down in decent waves then it was much more hassle. Probably small waves that isn't such a big deal. But even still, you have to think more about keeping your kite out the water than your sail, and this definately affects your riding.

But definately my biggest factor was being pulled down the line without being able to stall to well, and to be able to head back into the section. Small beach breaks thats no major drama as there are waves everywhere.

This was all C style kites so maybe its different on Bows. And this wasn't strapless. But still was a surf board style with straps.

Yes similar to NR, found I could be more on the wave face while wavesailing, stalling, cutting back, aerials, but also the comparison is based with C Kite.

But predominantly only do freestyle kite now, because can't be bothered waiting for decent wind and waves around perth, and it's amazing what fun you can have on flat water without strong winds.

If I lived somewhere like gero I would probably do 50:50, because I prefer what I can do on a wave wavesailing rather than kiting. But living in perth and particularly safetybay, with 2 young kids, and a wife who complains I'm never available. 1 hour kiting on flat is enough for me.

Used to agree with NR and safeteybayboy however I got a Sonic last season with 100% depower. Now wavekiting is much better than wavesailing. You can do anything on the wave as the bar is a throttle now from 0 power to 100% power and you are on a surfboard. Reverse relaunch also takes away some of the grief of dropping the kite in the surf.

u pull on poth back lines when the kite is downwind of u and LE down and the kite goes up backwards. i think this technique only works on some foils and bow kites.

Closest hey ??
Well,
You can kite the wave holding just a stick in-your-hand....
or you can,,,
Sail the wave with a big fat-arse windsurf rig in-your-face....
But how close can you really be to the art of surfing when you are jerking-off with fag-gear in the surf ?

Easier ??
Greenboss is correct.
I guess getting barrelled holding a stick,,,
is easier...
than getting barrelled holding a boom.
