Here's the irony of the every so slightly f&*%ed-up bureaucratic world we live in.

(there's another word which needs new spelling... maybe burocratic, anyway, I digress).

Just washed the car on the front grass. Do it about once every 2 or 3 months (truthfully, probably every 4 to 6 ). It got thinking, depending on dam levels, and the mood of the local water boards and councils, they can maybe fine me for washing the car, or maybe using the wrong hose/nozzle, or whatever... and they expect me to automatically know, and care, what I can and can't do.

However, inside my house, they are powerless to fine my wife (and other wives) for taking a 30 minute scolding hot shower, and doing 2+ loads of washing per day, and washing pots in the sink with the water free running at full tilt !!

Plus a neighbor has just gone and repainted their entire house, which is only 3 years old.... I asked them "why are you painting, it looks fine"... "oh, there were a few marks inside, and some bird droppings outside".... asked them, "did you try washing the marks..." .... they say, "oh we just like it all looking nice and new".... .. more money that sense... !!??

But there aren't regulations against using so much nasty paint (yet!). They can repaint after 3 years.... but I'm unsure if I can wash my car a few times per year and avoid a fine....

Oh, the irony....

PS - If I get a fine for washing the car, it's game on !! Guerilla tactics will be full deployed against those involved ! The fine might get paid, but there might also be at least 1 sabotage event which will be "equal to or greater than" the fine !

thats right the irony of minimizing impact of water usage disappears when you go and order some take away at the local Asian venue they have a tap going constantly above the wok burner or in the urinal at the local pub that constantly flushes and the.... its a crazy f***ing world. I guess you do your bit it in the hope it helps

Water is a 'renewable resource', so much of is wasted...but mostly before it goes through your meter. I've had comments about washing my driveway/house & boat by some tourists...would've loved to tell them to "f@$k off!" but just smiled sincerely...they're not to know that our water is artesian...or that I use tank water...plus the water tables here are constantly rising...plus we top the state's annual rainfall each year...or that the local council (until recently) 'purged' millions of litres of excess water into the ocean each year...poor simple tourist.

Drive along the Swan on Riverside drive and the council sprinklers for the foreshore come on at about 4pm every day. With a seabreeze most of it blows straight across the road nowhere near the grass.

Water pricing in Sydney promotes waste. I pay about $140 a quarter for water. Of this I use about $5 worth of water and the balance is a 'sewerage' charge.

Making sens???? Try that!

I am not allowed (in winter in WA) to use my retic to water my pot plants on the drippers line but can freely go around it doing it with my garden hose wasting all the water I can.

On the southern Eyre Peninsular we have tough water restrictions and we have to pay a save the river Murray levy when we are nowhere near it or use its water. I spent thousands installing rainwater tanks to be self sufficient amd help our megre water supply and my reward is having to pay GST on the costs.
