Seabreeze brains trust?

Had a call on my copper line business landline phone from caller ID 10*0*1*199 today. I didn't answer it.
Cant find anything online about that number (though it looks suspiciously like an IP address, not from the same range as my internal network either)


Any ideas anyone?

Overseas telemarketer mobs use terminating numbers that their autodialler from overseas connects to .... they look like regular landlines, but when u look into it the prefix does not exist.

I'd say your phone showed the autodialler address or a routing I.P, not the "number" they come from.

IP lookup shows webm401.xxl.ha.ovh.net which is a nothing, but ovh.net looks a bit sus.

Next time answer and give them your credit card details so they can send you all the money you won

I had an Indian guy call twice yesterday saying he was from telstra and that there would be an out age and that my security codes would need adjusting and that he would call a little later . The bs continued and I went along with it . He then asked me to go to my computer screen and that he would talk me through the process at which point I said wtf and hung up .

I've had that a few times. I just tell them that's fine. Go ahead and do whatever you need to because I wont be using the computer today.
They don't take that as an answer of course, and insist I tend to the matter now. I say Just do whatever you need to do,. no problems from me,.. etc,.. I even suggest he get off the line so they can get on with the disconnecting. He gets quite annoyed. Eventually they give up and hang up.

If you have a bit of spare time, and are in need of a victim to piss-fart around, such stupid "computer fixers" are fair game.

I have developed a few strategies to turn the table on them. One of the favourite is of course, to play dumb. I pretended that I am not sure if I am using an Apple or a Microsoft Windows based system. So I asked them to described, in "great" details, what colour, and what and where I should be seeing such error messages they claimed were stuffing up my computer. Then i pretended that I lost my glasses that I couldn't see very well, and asked him to repeat many times. Then finally, I told him that I didn't even turn the computer on as I didn't know how to. So I asked him to start all over again

The last one was the best as I played the sympathetic card. I told him that I knew it was all a con, but I understand why he was doing that. I told him that I own a large business employing hundreds of people of all racial heritages. I offered him a job with a very good starting salary he couldn't refuse. Guess what? He took the bait and gave me his phone number

Then I asked him to wait for a call from my Human Resource manager within the next couple of days. I think he may still be waiting...
