There are safety cages made for abalone divers, but if they don't use them they do so at their own risk!
This diver [according to reports] was taken leaving the cage to get back on the boat.
I couldn't find any reports that a cage was being used. (do you have any links?)
But people who know him say he always wore a Shark Shield. If so, this proves that a Shark Shield won't stop a shark if he's willing to kill.
I was annoyed by some so called "expert" being quoted in one of the newspapers saying that being attacked by 2 sharks is a "1 in 10 million" occurence.
This is complete and utter rubbish and armchair "experts" should study the facts before they open their mouth and ridicule themselves in newspapers.
Sure, sharks do not hunt in packs, but in the presence of another shark they are competing for prey and they are much more likely to attack and kill a person in a hurry.
