Ok, i'm a fairly book smart person, but when i look at the wind graphs I swear that an arrow pointing north says 'south' and an arrow pointing west says 'east'.

In fact, almost all wind graphs I've looked at do this.

What am i missing???

It points to where the wind goes to not where it is coming from.

Unless I'm missing something you generally want to know where the wind is coming from. ie a sou'wester for here normally means cool conditions off the ocean, an easterly brings hot dry conditions.

I don't give two hoots where the wind goes after here, I'm only interested in where it comes from and what it brings me.

My friends also care where the wind is coming from, if its south or south westerly, i'm in a good mood, if its easterly I'm cranky waiting/hoping for the sou'westerley.

Mood is also influenced by the colour of the arrows

Yes cos the arrow is pointing along the flow of the wind cos that is easy for everyone to visualise (not everyone using this site is a windsports person)

A southerly wind comes from the south, so on here the arrow points TO the north cos that is where the wind is GOING

(But a southerly current flows TO the south so that is the real confuser lol)

genetics lesson - an extra Y chromosome and i'd have Klinefelters syndrome. A missing chromosome and I'd be dead :P haha but thanks, a southerly wind heads north, now i get the graph :)

Thats because it is the standard convention. ie if you look at any weather map it will have a dot with a shaft and tail and feathers with the dot pointing in the direction of the wind stream. The number of feathers indicates wind strength. However because you do appear to have a different chromatic?? make up to the majority of sea breeze die hards you might like to store the following gem of information to use at your convenience. A Southerly wind blows in a Northerly direction and is indicated by an arrow pointing North (except on a windvane). A Southerly current sets to the South and is indicated by an arrow pointing to the South.
Was that system designed by two blokes?? two women??? or a bloke and a woman.

No jordy, if you were missing a Y chromosome your chromosome configuration would be XX, which would make you a girl.
Just plug in a Y chromosome and then you will understand everything!!
and be good at everything,
and won't spin around roadmaps like a windmill every time the car turns a corner.

I'm running now so it's no use throwing anything at me.
