Can anyone confirm that windsurfing and kitesurfing is now banned at Manly Beach, NSW?

Cheers

The whole beach or just down the Manly end? (no wind at that end anyway)
Queenscliff is a fun spot when its on. would be a pity.

I've heard that it's the whole stretch, which is a shame as it can work in a southerly.

Comrades
I can not be confirming this but you can be thanking of our kite boarding brethern for this
Launching and downing kites on very popular beach is always going to attract attention.
As ex local I have been in contact with number of locals who reporting many incidents with kites interacting with beach goers on manly beach.

This is sad situation as Queenie bombie is sensational to ride when conditions are right.

I reckon it could still be a case that wave sailing will be OK... as you can sneak out pretty quick to the bombie and dont hang around inthe baech break zone which is what the kiters have been doing there

Nothing in the Manly Daily or other news. Still know of guys wavesailing at North Steyne and Queensy.
If this was the case the sensationalism media would of jumped right on it.
I have heard rumblings from Sth Narra local surfers that kitesurfing is getting a bad rep at their so called "Kite Beach"
Lots of guys wearing boardies over wetties giving the good courteous kiters a bad name.
Then again there is nowhere near as many kiters there this summer as last year.
The majority of complaints centre around kiters going to close to other water users and the lines on the beach.

This is from the conversation I had with the head life guard:

Kite flying on the beach of Manly/Queenscliffe is banned, but kitesurfing is not – so I guess you have to fly the kite from the water. Windsurfing is not banned either. The basic rules are:

Stay 30m away from anyone if going over 10 knots
Stay 500m away from swimming areas

This is all on the back page of the latest waterways handbook.

In the summer there is no way you can abide by the rules!
