Sydney is in the grip of it. Lots of Nuns around. I haven't seen nuns around since I was a kid. It sucks the government spent so much money on it when clearly there are those in the community who need assistance (like me).

What is great is the behaviour of all the people from overseas. Normally when you see a bunch of teenagers together you see horseplay, hear foul language and have to question whether you were like that when you were younger. Seeing the Youth Day people is different, they are quiet and well behaved. I know I wasn't like that when I was that age and still am not.

So kudos to the people out here for World Youth Day.

Just because their ideas are different to yours dosen't really make them funny or wrong - just different.
Luckily we live in a country where freedom of speech/choice is allowed.

Yeah but my views don't force people to have an abortion or use condoms, just gives them a chioce.

And yes we are lucky to live in a country where freedom of speech/choice is allowed.

Nobody is forcing anyone to follow these beliefs - its just their belief and you should respect their right to of their beliefs even if there different to yours.

The days of the Spanish Inquisition have past - people make their own choices - right or wrong good or bad who's to say - not I.

Agreed no-one is being forced to follow these beliefs here.

However the catholic church does try and impose it's will on 'less robust' cultures/countries.

I agree people should be free to believe it whatever they want but what I don't agree with is certain people using their beliefs and moral high ground to then inflict a potentially harmful set of arbitary rules on a population.

I guess that is the nature of religion.

A set of rules for an individual to follow in order to attain spiritual enlightenment or similar.

The catholic church promote their set of rules/beliefs just as muslims do too. Nothing to say that either religion is wrong but important to remember each to their own.

they have grown up being brainwashed by the church, historically the church must have been the biggest/most successful con job ever. you gave your wealth to the church and did not question the work of god.

In my opinion a god figure would not create everything just to have the human race devote their lives to sucking up to him so that they hopefully can get a better deal once they are dead. It seems kind of stupid to me

That's the whole point "each to their own".

I have no religious beliefs but I'm not going to force everyone else to be a heathen.

Btw I have no particular dislike of the catholic church, as these sort of arguments are as valid when used against other religions/denominations

Personally I think that there is too much in our 'experience' that works too neatly for it to just have 'happened' due to sheer chance.

Imagine a HUGE junkyard full of broken aeroplanes, (which is really cheating, because they are sort of in the right shape to start with) now pile all the planes up, and set off a huge bomb (big bang) in the middle of the pile. Aside from everything probably being radioactive, the chances of something emerging that you could sit in and safely fly around are so small as to be ridiculous.

Now think of all the things/systems (not man made) that need to be exactly right in order to work, and all of the things that need to be working in order for us to actually survive being alive. Pretty unlikely to have "just happened" I reckon.

Whether any particular "religion" is the right way to explore that concept or not remains to be seen.

Of course, once you're dead and have found out one way or another, it's too late to change your mind!

If anyone here dies soon, please post a message on the forum and let us know the answers...

Bummer,

I did not want this to be a religious debate. Personally I am not Catholic and have no interest in joining the Roman Catholic Church. I was commenting on the behaviour of the pilgrims.

In Sydney at least, normally when you see teens and early 20s out on holidays in groups, they are normally bent over railings drinking, yelling and swearing or coughing their guts out.

The Youth Day visitors prove that bad behaviour is not synomenous with having a good time.

It can; religious arguments, along with politics and a whole lot of other 'serious' stuff, isn't really the idea of Seabreeze. It's meant to be fun. Thread is now locked.

I do like the idea of young people behaving themselves though. Good on 'em.
