Am I the only one who gets annoyed when asked this when paying by credit card ? Have I simply become a cranky old B , or am I justified in my thinking, how would I resolve any dispute when checking my credit card balance if I don't have anything to support my claim ?

Why do they ask this anyway , is it an environmental issue or have they become too lazy to replace the paper roll in the till ? Most of the time , I just reply with a polite, " yeah mate, I'll have it, it's the only way I can keep track of my spending. J

I'm on both sides of the coin, depending on what I am buying.

Some things should have a receipt - anything that might need returning, or anything expensive.

No receipt for small purchases that will never be returned - lunch, carton of beer etc

Yep, they are required to provide a receipt so I get a bit ticked off. On the small purchases I just wish the control freaks would leave me to operate the device as per design, then Im able to quietly make my choices and again, as per design, keep hold of my card.

James I'm the same as you. Always say yes. Sometimes I even have to ask for it (have had shops get cranky at me for this as they assume you don't want it. That starts a real fun discussion...).

Have been skimmed once while in Bali. Arrived back in Melbourne and got a call from the bank. They asked me if I had come home via Canada. Turned out I'd lost a total of $6k in a week. The only way they found out about it was because the perps tried to withdraw more cash than the maximum allowed.

Took a couple of weeks to get it back (The bank was really good about it so I'm not complaining). Card was replaced within 48 hours so I could continue with my life.

These days I keep all the receipts for twelve months then trash them (proper secure disposal... I'm a little paranoid about stuff like this).

Cool, glad I'm not the only then. I carry cash, so any purchases I make on the c card are way more than the cost of a beer or coffee. In some other countries, well at least one I know off, you are sent a text message when a transaction has taken place on your card. It will happen here eventually, then I won't bother with receipts for small purchases .Cheers, J

I find its only Woollies, Coles, BWS, Liquorland that ask. I reckon they do it so if you don't want the receipt they pocket it for the 4c a litre fuel discount

i need receipts all the time and always have to ask.
car for tax.
food etc for work travel expenses.
quite common to need receipts if you are working

We had similar, our local ATM was knobbled by a skimmer - and our bank called to let us know that there had been two withdrawals of around a million lira each from our account, but not to worry as the bank knew what was going on, monitoring things and was working with Interpol or similar to catch the crims red handed.

But all was good - and our next statement had these transactions highlighted by the bank.

If you add up all those lost seconds in efficiency it is costing Australia billions of dollars each year.

"Lost efficiency" indeed. Think of all the other things they could be doing instead of printing that receipt... like looking blankly at the wall or reading seabreeze...
