As mentioned,
I'm bored,
theres no wind,
I have a GPS (GT11) and a spare laptop (currently loaded with xubuntu linux)

is there an application out there that would allow my laptop, with the GPS plugged in, to act like a NavMan, TomTom etc?

Hey grumps, have you got "wine" loaded?
It doesn't run many windows apps, but it's always worth a try.
I've almost got realspeed working in it, just have to figure out how to come up with the machine number so I can register it.

I was thinking about a car style one, and really just for fun.
I have no real intention of driving around with the laptop next to me, my driving is bad enough as it is

No not yet, only just started mucking around.
The laptops pretty old and on the edge with mem etc. 192mb of ram, which is the max it'll take.

apt-cache search gps.

<<snippety>>

the following applications might do what you want:
gosmore
gpsdrive
