not a mech and a bit obvious but did you reconnect the gear rod with a pin? maybee the pin has fallen out and the linkage isn't moving the rod up/down. spinning the prop shouldn't matter. you could always push on the rod by hand to rule out any linkage problem.

Im not too sure what ur asking ,

But from what i gather you only have reverse gear?

IF thats the case , then you need to check a few things ,

1: that reverse gear still has teeth on it, or if the teeth of the gear are in good condition.

2: that the key or spline on the gear shaft that the reverse and forward gear sit on is not damaged.

3:that the selector arm for the gears is in the right position and it is engaging the gear fully.

another but unlikely cause could be that the prop saver shear pin hasnt partially sheared and only works in foreward. ( had a mate have this happen but he only got reverse)

Hope this helps. with a bit more info i might be able to help more.
Does it make any bad noises when you put it in reverse?

Does it make any noises at all?

Does the Forward/Reverse selector lever travel the same distance in both ways?

what kind of motor is it?

how are the gears selected.

Cheers.

Oh dear. What motor is it? I know in my Johnson 15hp repair manual there is a passage that says "Do not unscrew this screw when removing the leg to change the impeller, otherwise something drops off and you have to disassemble the whole bloody thing to get it back together". I think the thing that drops off it the shift linkage, but I'm not certain.
I hope you didn't unscrew that screw.
If it's an OMC motor the Seloc manual I have might have the answer.
By the way, if it's a Suzi DF150, I've got the manual for that too.
