Jordo, my young bloke is doing his electrical apprenticeship through a mob called EGT or Electrical Group Training.

Basically you work for EGT but they farm you out to all different electrical companies. That way you get experience at several different companies in different parts of the trade. For instance, in his three years he has worked for a house bashing group, doing the electrical in units, then for a switchboard company putting together the signal boxes for the new railway, and now for a large commercial company doing shop fittouts, data cabling, fibre optics and smart wiring etc. He loves it and is getting heaps of experience.

Might be worth thinking about. (He started at the end of year 12, but now wishes he had started at the end of year 11 cos he would be finished his apprenticeship and earning the big bucks)

I did my last couple of years with EGT. I got heaps of variety. I even went NW on a FIFO roster when I turned 4th year. Then when I came back I finished my last 6 months with the company I am currently with and have been with them for 3 years now.
EGT are great in that way that you get a wide variety of work. But joining EGT now you will have to sign an AWA. Just hang out for the next election for when Howard The Shmuck gets the boot then join EGT.
Hey Grumps no wonder the rail project is behind. I just spent 5 weeks correcting the signal boxes because someone wired them wrong.
