G'day all travellers. I am after some info about a holiday to Bali or Lombok. We have been to Bali a couple of times but would like to go to Lombok but not sure about the place. Any recommendations better to stay in Bali or move over to Lombok. What is there to do, see, places to eat, accommodation and level of comfort? Is it more than just another surf destination (not that its a problem for me) but need something for the wife to do. Any advice very welcome...

Lombok is a nice place though bear in mind it is ~90% Muslim. Where as Bali is mostly Hindu. Tread your own path.

Do both for a measly $70 ret and 35min flight with Garuda or cheaper with local airlines.....that have an iffy rep about landing skills!!!!!

Sengiggi and the Gillis good spots for a relax not much shopping type of holiday, beers n bonking perhaps if the swell in the area is in the big to large category you will get waves at sengiggi and Gilli T or go down to Kuta stay at the Novotel for more ...no shopping and beers n bonking but more chance of a wave with plenty of spots around

Gilli's are sketchy for surf, if the swell is gigantic and the wind right you may end up with head and a half peelers, draining for a coupla hunj. Rare.

Sengiggi is pretty cool. In contrast, at waist high it's three or four fifty meter sections, at 4-6ft they join up. Very tide dependent.
Can be stupidly good.

Lombok is a hell of a lot less "touristy" compared to Bali. Stacks to do on Lombok, but it's more about nature, and less about shops and night life...

You'll still find little parties at Kuta Lombok though. You can do anything from Volcano Treks, to surfing an array of waves, or hang by the pool... And general sight seeing... If staying at Kuta Lombok, you generally rise with the roosters, have some breakfast, and then gather into small groups for a surf trip... Wife can tag along, lay on the beach, or hang out in the boat and snorkel, etc...

If you haven't done Lombok, you should do it! Book in for 7 days... If you hate it after 5 days, just bail back to Bali... Or just pretend that the last 2 days are your honeymoon, and you'll love it!
