yes get a surfboard and use your body board as traction for tyres on your 4wd when you are bogged.

Try looking for a section (where you will end up after catching the wave) and paddle out there.'

Spend some time learning to 'read' the waves and break. Look towards the shoulder area of the break - usually it is easier to 'go around' where the wave breaks (impact zone) and paddle through clear water. Also, many breaks have sets of 2,3 or 4 waves... then a lull. When it's big, or breaking 'heavy', sometimes all you can do is wait for the lull.

Also, if you keep finding yourself stuck on the 'inside' after catching a wave, perhaps try pulling out of the waves before you get too far in. Makes the ride shorter, but sometimes this is made up by getting out the back sooner to catch another wave.

Don't forget to watch others that seem to know what they are doing...

Good luck...

look for a RIP. It is a current that will carry you out the back of the breaks without the pummelling.

If you don't know how to find a rip, just watch bondi rescue, they cover rips every 5 minutes.

you might hear......
OH NO RIPS ARE DANGEROUS DON"T RISK IT BLAH BLAH BLAH!!

Seriously you're floating on a board, being taken out to the back of the break You are NOT being dragged under (the old term under-tow is wrong) and you are not being dragged out to sea, it only goes about as far out as the back of the breakers.

Surfers use them alot.

happy days

think of a rip as a free ride out the back to were the best waves are. And if you surf next to one, you can just keep doing circuits round and around.
