after putting it off for as long as possible, i'm getting carpal tunnel release surgery done on both wrists in a few weeks.

has anyone here had this operation, and if so, how long until you could drive/work/surf/kite/sail again?

thanks buster.
carpal tunnel syndrome is when the nerve that runs down to your thumb, first 2 fingers and half your hand gets constricted in the wrist for some reason. it causes numbness, pins and needles, loss of strength, and muscle atrophy.
its a simple fix, just a quick cut and shut, but i don't know how long i can expect to be out of action- the surgeon was a bit vague

I was diagnosed with it about 8 years ago and was told sugery was the go.

I saw my Osteopath to see if he could help, it turned out my neck was out and after an adjustment I was all fixed. A good pysio can do the same for you.

You may well have carpel tunnel but I've read before (on here) that it is very often (most) mis-diagnosed.

i tried an osteo, chiro, naturopath, and acupuncturist. got the neck test as well.
i finally had my nerve impulses measured which narrowed it down definitley to carpal tunnel. i've also been having cortisone shots every few weeks which helps the symptoms but not the cause.

My neighbour had it done 2 yrs ago, Both wrists ay once!!
His wife had lots of unpleasant tasks to perform!!!
It took 4 mths before he was almost back to normal.
Sorry to here you have to go through this , but the end result is better than not having the op.
Good luck

Funny, in the late 80s the big thing in Oz was Repetetive-stress something in the wrist.
Don't hear of it anymore...
