Gady, this post is for anyone who knows where to catch the likes of blue eye trevalla, hapuka or a half decent 8 bar.ive been diving and fishing in perth local waters for twenty years+ and thought I, d pick on another dream, of heading out to the only clue ive been given which was "look for ground between 180mtrs to 300mtrs and try your luck",well armed with diawa megatwin, hooks the size of drum line hooks 3.25 kilo sinkers, god bless the diawa, so I, ll, cut the chase and put in on the table.CAN ANYONE POINT ME IN THE GENERAL AREA PLEASE.Oh and as far as the so called sacred site, HAPUKA HILL, if anyone would be kind enough to get me close or give me a clue, I have a bathymetric chart showing some very steep contours and I dont mind doing a bit of looking around, I really only want to catch one big one and would be more than happy to go back to my natural way of hunting being close up and personal with speargun in hand , so I would be looking to sell my near new megatwin of course at a discounted price to the skipper that would point the in the most accurate heading either out of rocko or woody, s and finally is there a charter that specializes in catering for the deep sea fishing I heard mention someone does it out of a fish and tackle shop in o, connor somewhere.any half decent replies I, ll be sure to remember you when you want to buy my megatwin.

I found the continental shelf at the local supermarket, wasn't very exciting.

Still, take anything said by any bloke in a tackle shop with a grain of salt.

3/4 years ago mate owned a big cat and we just used to just blind drop. Launched from woodies, went to Rotto, pointed the boat west and kept going for about 25kms and tried to find ground on an under powered sounder. We used deck winches. If you get green eye sharks, move. We never found decent fish when they were around.

My understanding is they mostly spend time sounding around as much as looking for particular spots, schools, but yes it does help to know whereto start

But its a big ocean out that far

On your chart have a look where the contour lines jut out. Behind rotto there are two " noses" ( turn chart on side) these two are a really good starting point. Depending on swell, if there is swell, try fish the tops of the " noses" if no swell than drift the walls. Have a look at your chart or navionivs GPS. If you can only launch from rocking ham just suss out your chart. Follow the 200 metre contour line and look for "noses" the bigger the nose the more ground you will find near it.

Try doug cleggs W.A. fishng guru his son is pretty knowledgeable too doughy is now gone but his legacy lives on.a true fishing expert & had the time for anyone.
