We watched this last night with my mum. I explained the story a bit before and how there is a bit of tension between Australians and Kiwis.

Before this in the Kiwi consulate office there was a poster on the wall with a NZ landscape and a caption saying something like:
"New Zealand - Take your mum"

Such a funny episode of a funny series.

I'm sure they didn't realize as they're far too politically correct and nice, but do you think the line "they're all a bunch of cocky a-holes descended from convicts and retarded monkeys" could cause deep offence to indigenous Australians? I was surprised when I heard it anyway.

The comment in its context doesn't say the retarded monkeys are any particular group of Australians in particular. Most Australians are not descended from Aborigines so I don't think that comment refers to Aborigines.
