Last w/e i went to my holiday house only to find the power circuit to the fridge had been tripped off. I had an occy , crayfish and meat in the freezer . The smell was indescribeable...3 weeks brewing

Despite cleaning it all up , bleaching and putting down a few teaspoons of lavendar it still stinks. It is so bad!!. Mid week the caretakers emailed me , that the smell is still over powering.

ANy suggestions . I wonder whether i should take the back off the fridge and see if there is any evapouration bowl that nees cleaning.

Comrade Jeremy
You must be boiling cabbage with little bit of vinegar added to water.
Combination with rotten seafood stench will have place smelling like traditional Russian Restaurant... this is then very nice for certain yar.

You can be using vodka for taking of the smell away

Comrade Kremlin. Do you mean drinking large quantities of vodka until the sense of smell is lost, or wiping the fridge with it?

Man Ive had the same pleasure. 1kg block of pilchards and other fishy scraps. 6 weeks up north and the missus turned the fridge off thinking it was empty before we left. When I opend the freezer there was literally a white misty haze flowing out of there. Sorry can't give you any tips to get rid of the stench but I think she used vanilla or something.

Bi-carb soda in an open soup bowl, will take a while to absorb what’s in there. Good place to get the good oil is second hand white goods shop, they usually have their own remedy
Check the water drain tray under fridge near motor.
Unfortunately you probably now have a "beer" fridge that can only be used outside

You are correct in assumption of drinking of much vodka until sense of smell he go away... this is one reason why in Russia we serve vodka with everythink. How else you be eating boiled cabbage and goulash made from fish stomaches ?
Comrade Jeremey you please be trying of this method first... then when you lossing sense of smell, then... AND ONLY THEN you be checking of this evaporation bowl/tray at back of fridge.
Also you trying of boiling water with vanila essence in bowl, if this still not work... also try liberal splashing of vanila essence

a dead kangaroo, collected from your nearest roadkill site, would comfortably remove the odour of the rotting sealife, however, then you would need to find something to rid the smell of the rotting roo, mmmmm, let me give this some more thought....... my dads garage continually has that dead bait smell, from many packed fridges and freezer units, that leak everywhere, I think his solution is simple, let the odour encapsulate everything, so then the odour becomes the normal.

Hope some of this helps!

Greenleader on the gold coast maybe able to help, as he has a dead rodent pungent stench flowing out the door at the moment!

just joking of course...

Jeremy,
There is a product available from a company called Jasol called chlorofoam which is brilliant.
It is used as a desanitiser and works really well.
If you have additional problems leave the freezer open and put a small container with cotton wool soaked in vanilla essence in it.
Good luck!

Yeh for sure a dead whale would smell heaps worse than a little bit of rotting bait. At least ya don't usually keep one of them in ya backyard. No amount of Vanilla would stop that stench. Copious amounts of Vodka would certainly do the trick.... Untill you woke up hungover in the morning.

There are some pictures, where when you see them, you really start to wonder about the circumstances that led to that particular picture being taken.

Reminds me of the time I was living in a caravan on the central coast with a mate while working at Eraring Power Station. We were both going on Xmas holidays, so locked up everything. Just as we are about to leave, my mate says "Hang on", and being worried someone might steal the extension lead that powered the caravan, he grabs it and chucks it in the car boot.

Well, everything would have been fine, except it was summer, and except there was a frozen chook in the freezer. Two weeks later we return, and nearly vomit as we open the van. The chicken has blown up, and the stench is unbelievable. After trying everything, we ended up chucking the fridge and buying another one.

we had exactly the sae thing happen to us. There was nothing that we could do. We tried vanilla, microwave cleaner (apparently it was suppose to work)viniger and water, a little bit of acid. the smell left after about a year.
