Ok, how the hell do you get out of bed early? Who jumps out of bed at 5am ready for it and keen for the day. Is it just me that habitually rolls over jaming a pillow over my head for another 5 minutes? Even when I know the swell is pumping and the winds dropped its still a struggle to get out before 7am HELP. Tips required.

I spring out of bed before 6am every morning, earlier on weekends.
There has been a lot of talk recently about adults not getting their minimum 8 hours sleep which is need to function properly. The only way to wake up early and refreshed is to go to bed early. There is no avoiding the hard facts. I don't watch TV which makes it far easier to go to bed early. Think sbout how often do you sit up at night channel surfing when there has been nothing to watch, that's good sleeping time wasted!

Nothing like getting up at "sparrows" heading out looking for a wave then watching the sun come up over the sand dunes.

We used to have a regular half dozen of us Dawn Patrolers getting an hour or 2 before work.

It's the best way to start the day, you may be having a crap time at work then you just pick a bit of beach sand out of your ear and it reminds you work is only there to allow you to recover for your next surf

knotty, its the spring bit Im intrested in, I dont seem to function with out a cup of tea, minimum, and a bit of soul searching while I wander around the house, slowly winding up. How does one "spring".

Exactly Rellie, I love the feeling of doing half a days work before some people are out of bed. Sunsets are nice but sunrises are better. I actually get out of bed earlier on weekends, I suppose that's strange but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Arancini, I can't give you a magic formula for 'springing' out of bed, some people are either a morning person or night person. That can change over your lifetime, as a student I wouldn't think twice about sleeping past midday but that's in the days of drink cask wine and smoking stuff with mates until 3am. Now I am older and married to a beautiful girl so I am happy to go bed early

I've never had a problem getting out of bed early for something that I really want to do. Like this morning. Last night it was blowing 25kts+ and the forecast was for it to keep blowing. So at 11:30pm I decided to load up the car for my first pre-work sail ever this morning. Of course I woke a 6:15am (no alarm clock needed) to find the wind had dropped to 12kts, so I decided to go to work early anyhow. So I now look out the window to see it nearly back to 25kts. Spewin'mate.

That thing about being a morning person or a night person is right. In some countries they actually organise job categories as either A or B type to suit A or B type people. I am a B type and when left to my own devices I find myself waking up later and later til I find I'm keeping rock n roll hours. Then every so often my body clock jumps to New Zealand time and I have to get up and go for a walk at dawn. Those days are the best, even though its not windy in the morning.
