Actually I had that phone call the other day too... I cut those cold calls out early though.

Other methods;
- just put the phone on the desk, don't hang up, and let them talk, and talk... they eventually give up.
- engage them is discussions about motorbikes. Ask them if they have one, or which one they would like to buy.... When they try and get back to selling, tell them, "no I want to keep talking about motorbikes". Stay strong on the motorbike topic, and they give up...
- if they ask for a random donation, just tell them that you already donate to The Spastic Centre of NSW, and that all your donation money gone (I actually do donate to them - but they have been renamed).

Sorry to the call centre people out there... You think I waste your time, but you started it by calling me, and wasting my time! You also started it with deciding to get up out of bed, and go into a call centre... you're wasting your own time every day if you do that job!!... get a life, and get a real job!...

I was down the local sailing shop and he had a good system.

He kept them on line as long as possible. By keeping them going, your wasting their resource and lowering their profit of the scam.

Next time you have a spare 30 minutes, give it a go and see how long you can keep them going.

Aussies are great at having a chat, so take on these people and haveachat!

Trust me, it'll piss em off more than hanging up.

Last time I had one of those I acted all worried and said yes, I'd had lots of computer problems and viruses recently and could they please help me. She got all excited and told me to bring up the login screen and then she was going to help guide me through to where I needed. I explained my login screen was different to how she was describing and then when she asked me how so I explained it was a Linux terminal (which it's not). She went off and talked to her supervisor. She then told me she couldn't help so I acted all disappointed and asked if they could please help, I've got so many slowdowns and viruses. She talked to the supervisor again. I pleaded some more and asked who could help me. She hung up on me.

I do the same, I keep them going as long as possible.
I actually do use a Linux box so I play dumb and say "I can't find the Start button on the screen" and when they ask me to press the windows key and "r" I say that nothing's happening. It's true so I'm not even lying.

Eventually I'm passed to an "expert" who asks me if I'm using a Mac so I tell the truth again and say no.
Given time they hang up, but it's fun for me for a while.

They just hang up and the autodial gives them another potential sucker.

That used to work with landlines, but in the world of IP phones, they have almost limitless lines.

It's funny when they say they can see your computer has problem... ask them what operating system that your using?.... then you tell them you are using a Mac PC (even if you don't) shuts them up real quick...

If you really want some fun print off a copy of this counter script and keep it near the phone.... You can have lots of fun

Ask them for their name
Ask them for their Phone number , they never give that, tell them you will get the boss to call back
Ask them for their postal address and full company name and acn and ABN number
Askthem if you can record the call for training purposes

After this you can hang up as you won't get any of it
if they haven't already hung up

For the aggressive phone sales call I generally tell them i am gong kitesurfing then hang up about 10 secs into the call

He he. Had the same call two days ago and started laughing at the Indian woman when she told me she was with microsoft. Told her it was the funniest phone call I'd had in a while.

"There's nothing funny! Your computer is at serious risk. This is velly bad wirus" and a few more minutes of lectures from someone who probably couldn't even turn on a computer before she hung up on me.

Apparently I could also have saved about 100,000 dollars on my tax return over the last few weeks with the number of phone calls I've had about it.

I just flirt with the girls, ask what they wear, say I love the sexy accent and so on could keep one going on for 12 min she droped the line when I asked for sexy pictures of her. FREE FUN!!!! When it is a guy I start talking about boats, sailing.... my best was a couple of minutes!

The upshot of this scam is they get vunerable people to install software that actually gives them remote access to your computer and records all your keyboard strokes i.e. credit card details, electronic banking log-ins etc.

They make out the errors listed in everyone's Windows Event viewer (that they get you to check on your computer) are viruses and only they can provide a patch. You can play along with them right up to the time they ask you to download the phishing programme from their bogus website.

I get in a real panic on the phone verging on hysterical asking dumb questions about if the the virus is contagious and if my family is at risk, prattle on for ages not letting them get their spiel out, then when I'm bored tell them I haven't got a computer
