(surprised this thread took so long)
I'm personally not upgrading until Google Maps is available, I use the Transport feature quite a bit. That and there's not much reason to upgrade.
But...
I just had a play with the maps and the 3D mode **
IS SERIOUSLY AMAZING**. My jaw dropped. At least in the areas around Sydney I panned around, city to eastern suburbs,
every single building was in 3D. And the detail completely blitzes Google Earth. All the trees including down to a 6ft palm tree out the front of our building was rendered in 3D. All the tiny details of the building ...it has to be down to sub-metre resolution.
It's flashy and useless I know, but nonetheless hopefully points to the future direction of the 2D maps.
