thoughts are with Jill Meagher, husband and families, what has transpired over the last week in Melbourne, culminating in the news today is totally abhorrent.
One would hope that the justice system works to its maximum potential both in the courts and jail.. for the alleged perpetrator of this crime

I never knew Jill and now never will.
My condolences to her family and friends, don't try to make sense of such a senseless act, cherish your memories for you will have them for the rest of your days.

I think we are about to find out that it was the justice system that allowed this crime to transpire.

And let's hope the media give as much coverage to the other 100 people reported missing around Australia last week.

What happened is terrible and should not occur in civilised society but the media have shown their colours yet again

Interesting that the husband has come out today asking for calm and restraint on Facebook, Twitter etc. I guess there are a lot of people out the calling for bad things to happen to this dude in prison??? The media hype and social networking that helped get to this point is now going to work against the prosecutors ability to get a 'fair and impartial jury' to convict this guy.

Yep, very scary.

I kind of feel bad now blaming hubby for a few days.

I didn't want to admit to myself that there are some horrid human predators out in the wild with no other outlet, that are driven to do bad things to others.

He must have done other nasty things - I'm glad he's off the streets.

So what are the family going to do?

Rip him apart in some blood thirsty revenge?

Yeah, Thats going to help.

Their probably normal people and not into violence.

Lynch mob mentality is so two centuries ago.

Your words not mine Nimrod. I was actually thinking they should be given a chance to know why and to able to at least confront him face to face for answers.

This piece of **** needs hanging. And it would seem that it should have happened before he took Jill. Give her family the chance to pull the lever on this asshole.

Fair enough.

All the answers come out in court.

Don't see what the family would gain out of a confrontation.

Probably why they don't do it.

The same courts that convict sometimes, yet allow for parole in 8 yrs so they can go look for somebody to rape again?
When the max sentence is 20yrs?

Not much of an "answer" huh

Don't know about that

Saw in the news last week the Victor Chang murderer has done his 20 years and they still won't release him.

Can't see Martin Bryant getting out anytime soon either

If you trust the media reporting of some high profile cases that's up to you. I trust the court system a lot more than I trust the media.

People get all upset and demand instant justice because they see a 5 minute TV segment when they really don't know Jack s&#t.

Just don't like the concept of trial by media and a witch hunt.
kinda primative

Yeah its trial by media and a witchhunt.
This piece of human excreta led the cops to where he buried her.
And yet our idiotic justice system and morons like you still treat
him as an accused suspect.
Its not mob rule, its obvious.
So whats the defence argument..
He followed the real rapist/ killer to Gisbourne and watched
where he buried her, then reported it to the police a few days later,
but only after hours of interogation.

My belief, that for such heinous crimes such as this one, the perpetrator of such, once found guilty beyond reasonable doubt has in affect shown complete disregard for the sanctity of human life, community and social values and as such, crossed the line where all rights to be treated with decency afforded to human beings are removed.
The line in the sand has been crossed and I can see no point in keeping a person like this, in the prison system.
As for the outpouring of sorrow, to me it does show that our community does indeed have a heart, although appearing soulless and contrived at times, the core values are still apparent across all cultures that live in our city and the values we hold should be seen as a no compromise by the Government and the Judicial system.

Ockanui - I agree.

But he crossed that line long ago with raping chicks previously. He should still be inside for that.

Let's get rid of this concurrent sentencing. His previous offences if added one on top of another should mean 30yrs plus in the bin

Hey ****ta. I'm not saying he shouldnt spend the rest of his life in the slot with hard labour. I'm saying we need to trust the system that will put him there.

I've probably studied history more recently than you guys so I know what happens when the system you take for granted breaks down. For all I know you don't even do history in Oz.

Poor thing. You got yourself in a lather because that news story had lots of piano and violin music. Home and away keeping you up at night as well? Typical of the downtroden of low socioeconomic standing
