Ok I don’t want to have a shyte stir - I don’t a get that anyhow as to why the two sports can’t co-exist and all that crap that the two disciplines seen to harp on about... what’s up with that anyhow?

I kite surf... am too lazy... i.e. cant be assed paddling out the back to surf... but am contemplating extending my water activity from kite surfing in summer to windsurfing in winter.. I like waves and windsurfing looks challenging - Windsurfers I have seen here (4th mile) seem to just ride up and back so assume it’s hard to do much else? (No offence - doesn’t look as fun though with the jumping of kite surfing) so anyhow I am throwing this out here in the general forum for those that do both... what’s your take on the sports - when do you go out to do one and not the other... I think down here (Esperance) windsurfing is more the go during winter? Anyone to confirm this and have anything to add that’s useful?

I hear windsurfing takes more to learn - needs more skill and longer to get into... bring it on!! Always up for a challenge... Anyhow would like to hear from the windsurfers and kiters - saves posting in either forum to be seen as a shyte stirrer.

Am sure some smart ass will comment on staying as a tea bagger so as much as that’s funny its predictable.. so if your going to throw shyte make sure its sticks as that’s all just water off a ducks eerm I mean kiters back for me.

Disclaimer : am pissed so tomorrow I might think windsurfing is gay (due to hangover). And wonder what the hell was I thinking.

OK I'm sucked in, but Mark is your man for Esperance conditions.

From my perspective, I think you have it back to front. Wavesailing looks better for down the line conditions, and I think that's summer in Esperance, although you've had some unseasonal S.E. lately. Kiting looks more like using waves as ramps to carve on and boost off.
In Perth I don't do much wavesailing in winter, it's more bump and jump.
Not sure what normal winter conditions in Esperance are like, but I suspect it's as onshore as here. In which case down the line windsurfing is nowhere near as good as in summer.

Yeah its been really weird the SE winds we been getting lately... nice though for my kitesurfing - dont enjoy the sw winds feels all goofy foot to me and the wind seems to be more flooky in a SW with regards to kitesurfing cold fronts down here... hence my questions about windsurfing them instead..

yeah I duno about waves and wind conditions with regards to windsurfing - plenty or places with the bay in esperance that twists and turns so a sw somewhere probably is slight offshore...

South easterly out at kelpies (le grand to wylie) is cross off shore for clean waves... (Unlike 4th mile) ... in summer but haven’t seen any windsurfers out there in summer... anyhow cheers for the reply...

seabreeze here is side-side-on, not quite as good as side or side-side-off. But they're all OK for down the line wavesailing.

I reckon windsurfing will compliment your kiting.

I also reckon you should get lessons if you dont already know the basics. I think they still do 'em at pelican point.
That way you can skip the 'big-board' step.

Time-wise I reckon you are loking at a good two seasons before you could handle the type of waves you are presently handling on your kite.

For waves you would need to have waterstarting, gybing and then jumping sussed. Each of these taking you a few months to suss out on flat water/small waves first.

I can lend you a light sabre and black mask....
