Hey y'all.
I just had a rather amusing long phone caonversation with some clown from Bha (he said).
They phoned me up and got me to look at my applications log and then pointed out that my computer was infected and that their company was in partnership with Microsoft and were helping everyone disinfect their computer.
Yeah right. as if!
I could have hung up there and then but wot the heck?
So instead I sounded real worried and went along with them.
I was twice transferred to a more and more senior person until finally I was talking to the head technician. My problem was very serious you see.
I was verrry worried.
But the good news was,.. they could help me and would do it for free! yeah right!
Anyway, he wanted me to go to the 'run' option and type in a web address www.logmein123.com.
I made noises like I was doing it but didn't.
I then said I was not too sure about typing in a command given to me by an unknown person from a shielded telephone number.
After a while he realised I was not going to do what he wanted and started abusing me for wasting his time.
He ended up telling me to F... off a number of times.
I reminded him that it was him who phoned me and suggested he always had the option of hanging up.
He moved off the phone and I heard some bad foreign language that I couldn't understand.
You can tell bad language in any language because it has that "F. U." tone to it.
Anyway, I still didn't hang up. I mean why should I? He might say something else funny.

After about 30 seconds when I didn't hang up, the call automatically went back to the original guy at the switch board who thought I was a new call and started the same routine again.
I said I had already been through all this and their head technician had told me to F.. off, which I found unbelievable coming from a Microsoft partner.
He said he would reprimand the person concerned and still tried to get me to go through the routine again.
Finally I said I was starting to have doubts that they really were microsoft partners and I was not going to log on to any site given to me from a shielded telephone number.
I asked for a number to call them on so I would know who I was talking to.
He gave me 983 0648 851 which I said didn't sound like and Australian number. He said he was calling from Bha. I said I never heard of it and could he spell it, which he did.
I didn't call the number. Why waste my money?

Anyway, just a warning, Microsoft never phones people up with free fixits for their computers so if anyone rings you up and offers you such a service, waste as much of their time as you can but don't go to any site they ask you to key in.
They said they were doing Western Australia this week. (aren't they just too kind for words?)

Microsoft phoning up to help. It sounds suspicious from the outset.

That's strange. Google earth cant find Bha.
I'm losing faith in google earth.
A number of times it hasn't been able to find places and addresses that were given to me by people trying to sell me something.
Although I spose he could have lied to me. Nah. Nobody would do that would they?

Interesting that their cover involves coming from a country that doesn't exist...

In my day, when geography was taught in schools....

Logmein is a remote access website that is a legit site that, when you sign up, allows you to have remote access to your pc.
As far as I know, the logmein123 service is part of the same group that allows 3rd parties ( ie repair techs etc) remote access to your pc. You have to enter a code to allow this.
I used to use logmein for quite a few years and never had an issue.
I am not sure how much access logmein123 has on your pc though. I certainly would not recommend allowing any sort of remote access to your pc from anyone unless you can guarentee their validity.

I got the same call last year some time. Like you I was interested to see what they would try and get me to do. I refused to type anything into my 'run' thingy and said I was ending the call. They got all ****ty and called back about 5 times! To anyone who didn't know much about computers and was a bit trusting they would have sounded pretty legit. Bet they suck in a lot of people

^^^^^ we have at least one customer a week that rings and tells us they have a Microsoft teckie on the phone and they want remote access ....

But then we do get the odd customer that gave them remote access and then we have to go and fix it
There are still alot of people that just don't have a clue about scams...
