With cdma about to be thrown out the window i am looking for a new phone to suit the next g telstra system.

Anyone upgraded to a new smart phones yet and have some feedback to share?

I am looking at getting the palm treo 750 - seems to be a nifty device anyone bought this yet and have some negatives to say about it? Only hear so far its great but there has to be a downside to it.. apart from stealability !!

Is it water proof for example - ok thats a given. how is the reception and anyone used the "atenna pad" to conect to a larger antena (talking about those car ones)

We have a bunch of Nokia CDMA. Unfortunately Nokia not making next G yet. Our investigation for robustness and reliability is LG, has a flip top but out of the bunch, its proving to be sort of OK for our work. (mining enviro) The rest we didnt get too excited about. We have about 100 CDMA.

Hope this helps.

isn't NextG same as three G? pretty sure all the 3G phones work on the NextG network.

In a fit of intelligence, a bit over 10km of development and associated stoping in the mine I'm at right now has been named part of the "G-Zone".

On the subject of phones, don't get the i-mate JAS-JAM. It has been in the shop getting fixed three times now, I have been without it for about three months in total. Apparently there are about 160 of them sitting there with the same problem waiting on the same replacement part from the Middle East, and they can't even give me an estimate on when it will be back.

This pretty amazing! A GPS site where you can type in a mobile phone number and it finds exactly the location the person is (assuming the mobile is switched on).
Try it out - it's pretty accurate.

Put in the first 4 digits in the first field, and the remaining digits in the other field.

Log on to www.sat-gps-tracker.com/english/index.html

Is this part of the 3G?

I'd be wary of sites like that GPS tracking one, often they're nothing more than fronts for telemarketing companies, looking to harvest mobile phone numbers.

So sure put the number of someone you hate in there, but I wouldn't put my own number in...

Regarding NextG, I swapped over a couple of months ago from CDMA, and the new phone has roughly the same coverage, and much better features. GSM doesn't work at all out where I am, CDMA and NextG are borderline. It's definitely the way of the future though, it's a much better designed protocol than CDMA.

Neb thats not a tracking site, as such. Put any eight digits in you'll get the picture.

as for nextG v CDMA the coverage should be the same because they both used the 850Mhz range.

I'm ex big T and the last 2 phones I had were Kyocera CDMA and they were great!!! I'm told they don't do a 3G yet so I'm sticking with my nokia CDMA until I can get one.

Next G works on the 850MHz bandwidth, and '3G' works on the 2100MHz bandwidth, so no, traditional '3G' phones will not work on the Next G network. The Next G Network is currently the only national HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) which currently enables upto 14.4Mbps which is pretty damn sweet!
-Oh and I think Virgin is testing out that capability in like Sydney only or something?

14.4 megs hey wow! Not bad - going of the price plans then a 70 meg monthly download plan @ 30 bucks would be used up in 5 seconds or there abouts? I need longer than 5 seconds to stream porn!

Idiot Alert: I know the movie will go longer than 5 sec as it doesn’t have anything to do with downloading times!
