Maybe if they received a decent wack of funding, they would be able to produce quality viewing for your Saturday night. Perhaps the fact you are watching all that child birth is a symptom of how under funded our ABC is. The fact they are still so relevant and threatening to Murdoch et al says a lot.

On another tack, speaking as someone who recently witnessed their firstborn entering the world; I think as a society we are losing touch with such basic things as child birth. Unfortunately I think we now need television to bring general awareness of some of these most fundamental of occurrences. Once upon a time, we lived in small communities and were exposed to the trials and tribulations across the full gamut of life. Nowadays we live comparatively isolated lives and many normal life events are somewhat traumatic simply because we have lost familiarity with such events.

Edit: Now the show has hit my time zone, I realise it isn't quite the 'doco' I was thinking about so maybe some of the 'educational' elements are also not there. Still, we really have lost touch with the basic things in life, the 'First World' has its benefits, but we have lost a fair bit to get here...

Surely it is a sign of a Government Gone Wrong when a simple conversation about television programing turns into a political conversation after one or two comments.

Childbirth is not dissimilar to the Alien movies; giant parasites and goo and blood and screaming.

Witnessing your child's birth is a wonderful experience. I especially liked the language that came from my wife during it.

Along the lines of "Somebody get this effing thing out of me!!!"

I think that program is very educational. It shows what great advances have been made in the last 50 years.
Back then, babies were born very small with purple and red screwed up faces. In fact, purple and red screwed up everything.
Now they are born at least twice the size, about the same size as what used to be a 3 or 4 month old, and looking all white and pink and no screwed up faces at all.
And nobody calls "Nurse! More hot water and towels,.. quickly" anymore.
Isn't science wonderful.

I've been babysitting no.1 offspring's firstborn heaps lately, and not one icky mess for me to clean up yet
Little tyke has been saving up for either the Sandwichmaker - or for the trip home with the kids
Used to be the same with the 9 nieces and 4 nephews, not one mess to clean up between them all - over 20something years.
