heya,

as a result of dreaming about kiting I managed to break the screen on my phone with the boot lid of my car.

Luckily i can still sort of use the phone, i use my pc to tell it to call some one and it does, now if i could only find a way to cart my pc around whilst its on...

so im on the market for a new phone. im looking at the new htc, ofcouse im gonna nuke windows and put android on it.

what are your suggestions. a phone for a kiting geek!!

You can buy a phone like the HTC Desire or Samsung Galaxy S which has Android already installed. A friend of mine has a Galaxy S and its a nice phone. I think its better than the iPhone as you don't have to use iTunes.

Buster I have one of those and I am not so sure that it is a good thing. I have messages turn up two days late, I go to answer the ****er and it does not allow me and it often rings out after half a ring, I seriously reckon that it is deliberate. Every call I miss generates another one.

That said I would not buy an I phone or whatever you call them on principle!

I have an HTC HD which is in good condition with original box... custom ROM (get your own @ xdadev), SIM free... if you're interested let me know.

It's 15 months old but I want something small... unlike the iFools the battery lasts more than a week using G-Profile to switch radios off at night.

I want a Nokia X3 Touch and Type... small, light, 18 days standby.
I just wish it had a fuller keypad... I can't sms with number pads, but I don't sms much.

The Galaxy is good on paper, but all that LAME ASS SAMSUNG branding sucks ass... why don't they rebrand themselves, "sam", "s" or something less in your face ugly. HTC is nice and discrete.

I agree with Buster

Phones are for phoning and computers are for computing

I just wish I could get a durable one that is not half glass with decent reception AND an external aerial plug for the hi gain aerial in the car - the passive pickup cradles are nowhere near as good.

i have had like 10 phones over my life time i have destroyed them all.
you name it i done it.
1) diving in water to retreive a sea anchor
2 )put it in the washing machine
3)i had a touch screen but threw it at a wall cause it was to difficult to execute a simple txt message.
4)sprinklers got it
5)dog chewed phone x box controller and tv remote up
now i just buy a simple phone

Just reading about a cheapo Android phone available from Crazy Johns.

Huawai Ideos for $159.

ausdroid.net/2010/10/21/huawei-ideos-headed-to-crazy-johns-in-late-octearly-nov-for-159/

Seems like a good buy as it runs the latest version of Android. I think it's a pre paid and locked to Telstra but not sure. Even if it is, its probably not that hard to unlock it.

I am a fan if simple phones for sure.

After trashing a couple of semi-speccy phones a few years back I lent my mum-in-laws old 'green screen' Nokia and loved it.

Sure there was th occasional moment when i wished it had a simple camera but I REALLY enjoyed just having phone again.

Having said that - anyone suggest a simple-ish water-proof phone with a camera and net access?

My Nokia died this afternoon. The screen is on but blank.

So I went down Crazy Johns and picked up a Huawei Ideos. The sales assistant advised me it was locked to the Crazy John network which is apparently a Vodaphone network. She said the phone wouldn't work with 3 and would need to be unlocked which cost around $50.

I took the risk and bought it for $149 which included a 4GB micro SD card along with the standard 1 GB standard one.

Back at home after putting my 3 sim card I fired it up. It took a fair while to boot. Once booted it spotted my sim so I made a call and it worked! So no need to unlock.

It seems like a pretty cool little phone. Much smaller than an iPhone which is good and bad. Good to have a smaller phone but with the screen real estate a bit smaller, everything is cramped.

It will be interesting playing around with it. Yeah its great to have a simple phone but moving from the simple Nokia to an Android phone is definitely a step forward.

i wonder if vacume packing a phone would be good enough for a couple of sessions *chin scratch*

got a cheapo phone from a friend for now. seems like the cheapos are the bets for kiters, specially seeing as the money can def be better spent (on kites )
