there was a thread on seabreeze about growths on your eyes that get sore and agitated by sand salt sun sunscreen, virtually everything we encounter.
I can't find it, can anyone tell me what the "growths/ulcers" are called or where that thread is hiding.
mine are f%^g uncomfortable and i want to have a name when i go to see doc about it, if he hasn't heard of them i'll see a different one.

Any temporary remedies would be good too. I have used lacri lube drops not lotion) which relieves me for a bit unrill it goes away.

Thanks
Col.

i got em bad also but you should put of getting them removed because it hurts like buggery - have been told it feels like there's a teaspoon of coarse sand in your eye for a couple of weeks, and then they grow back. Doctor told me that they dont normally remove untill starts affecting vision - 2% over retina? anyway mine is more than that but have heard so many bad tales am loathe to get them removed. Left my seaspecs home yesterday and boy did I know about it!

It was in a thread a long time ago.
I had mine removed in early 90's. Having spent pretty much my whole life at the beach mine were shocking. The surgeon used me as a teaching case for students.
Its a pice of skin that grows from the corner of your eye as the bodies way of trying to protect your eyes.
The procedure is not pretty or fun and the pain afterwards is horrible.
You get some drops to deaden your eye. Then a local anestethic is injected into your eyeball. It doesnt hurt but you "feel" the needle going in. You are covered up and all you can see is blurry images from one eye.
The surgeon then starts prodding and poking your eyeball around until he starts cutting and scraping from the corner across. You cant actually "feel" anything but you know whats going on. All I could see was orange then red then black as there is a lot of blood.
It doesnt last long and then my eye was stitched shut and see you later.
By the time I got home I was in agony. I went to bed around 3 on a Wednesday arvo and actaully knew what was going on late Friday night. The operation affects the side of the brain that the eye uses and because of no stimuli it kind of shuts down.
My poor girlfriend (now missus) had to change the dressings, pretty chronic.
That was one eye.
When I got the other one done it was much worse and after the op I had to have radiation therapy on the eyeball as the surgeon had to take a tiny indent of the eyeball to get all the growth. This time they gave me some wicked eye drops that numbed the pain but still 10 days off work and no driving.
My eyes are always red and Visine is my best friend.
They are very slowly growing back. I cant have the op again on the damaged eye so lets hope they dont come back too quickly.
WEAR sunnies all the time and make your kids too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
