I reckon your household contents insurance would cover it especially if hung out around the back

It is expensive to specifically insure windsurf gear.

My contents insurance was for about $100K and cost me about $50 per fortnight.
When I added all my w/s gear so it is covered for theft and damage anywhere, any time it is not in use, it went up to $85 per fortnight
Good peace of mind though

Most house insurance covers non-specific items up to a limit of about $1000 per claim.

You can nominate specific items for an additional premium.

Unless the item is very expensive it is not worth nominating. You get stung with excess and depreciation and stuff.

The best thing is to buy your gear, use, abuse it, take care of it, wear it out, replace it.

Yeah but $10K worth of gear in your car and somebody prangs into it? Or it catches fire?
Or a big tree blows over on the perfect 35kn day and squashes all ya stuff?
I take the peace of mind option.....

it's worth clarifying beyond any doubt what the windsurfing equipment is when taking out new home/contents insurance. After hours of ringing around different companies, who off-the-cuff said the windsurfing equipment would be covered, once I described what the items were in detail, and once they understood what it actually was, and them going away to talk to a supervisor / re -checking their PDS, it turns out they would not cover them whatsoever.

not sure if it works differently in other states, but in qld;

nrma = no
racq / racv = no
gio = no
aami = no

suncorp and allianz were the only two qld home/contents insurers who agreed to cover it. suncorp with less fuss than the other

Cheers

Log ... That way of thinking / acting is the reason why honest people have to pay an arm and leg for insurance!!!!
