Whales are reasonably smart, right? Surely they have a sort of distress call, something like "There's nasty stuff here, stay away"? I'm sure most animals have something along these lines, it's a pretty basic communication need.

So what's stopping Greenpeace from developing a sonic gadget that broadcasts this signal loudly as they follow the japanese fleet? Wouldn't this make the whales scatter and stay away from the harpoons?

So "funds go to stopping whaling in the southern ocean".

Techinques like Sea Shepherd using a big blade on the side of their vessel to try and puncture the hull of a Jap vessel... when a sinking would certainly mean death for some of the crew? (Last season)
Or techniques like the two guys who went on board the Jap vessel and were captured and claimed they were there to "just deliver a letter imploring the Japs to stop the slaughter". Then a couple of weeks later they boast they can track the Jap vessels as those guys planted a GPS tracker on the boat.

Yeah real peaceful protests.

I am against Jap whaling, and I might buy a t-shirt when the greenies stop behaving like like militant w^nkers who are above the law.
Wave banners, cool. Mass protests with no violence, cool (well maybe one day they will hold one).
Endanger life and lie about your actions... uncool.

Ah but they have. They deploy the sound of a baby whale in distress to ATTRACT the whales because it suits their political agenda...
Blue whales, blue m&ms... it all fits.

Must be a few here who buy stuff even if they disagree with it morally or politically?

Strewth! What with the Seppo's sonar, and all the Trekkie geeks buying their own brainwave generator, I think we may just find the poor bastards asking to be harpooned by the Nips.....
