Instructions for safe driving in Delhi:
Good horn.
Good brakes.
Good luck.

There's only two rules: 1 Don't hit. 2 Don't get hit.

I think I see patterns. That could be modelled mathematically I'm sure. Order in chaos.

Variables:
* Vehicle size
* Vehicle speed
* Grouping density
* Gap size
* ???

I saw a cluster of bikes using a bus for protection at one point, I bet that isn't a random effect...

Easy as Pi.

Reminds me of that tour of Nam. Man the company (wifey) and I were lucky to get out of Hue alive.

EDIT:

The thing I noticed (and have in Thailand and Nam) is that it at 1st seems anarchy to us westerners, but after a bit of examination - or time on a scooter - you realise the diff is it all relies on simple common sense.

Even most of the trucks give way if they think there actually will be an accident, despite the fact they will come off best.

Nobody stops for long, no jams for long, lower overall speeds. Interesting.

Gregory Roberts in his book Shantaram dexcirbes vividly the anarchy that takes over when an accident occurs in Mumbai. The crowd literally tears the driver to pieces - good incentive to watch where you are going!
