Noticed the latest, Cannon, 10 X optical zoom and image stabilizer technology has a waterproof housing and a tele doubler options, think the camera is in the $900 range, not sure about the housing or doubler.
I have an older A30, (but not waterproof) and love it, great software. versatile, easy to use etc.

i was just looking at the canon powershot S1 IS... seems pretty cool
its only 3.2MP but its features seems pretty good
and the 10x optical zoom.. awwwwwwww yeah..

I suggest you go to Valentines Camera House in Fremantle,, speak to Luke or David..
Say Chad sent you, and I am sure they will look after you.
They do the whole Cannon range will all the casings, etc plus many other brands.

You can go to harvey norman to get the best price or you can go see luke or david if you want service and you want to deal with the people who own the shop, not run the shop

I also have the Poweshot A70. Great camera and 3.2 Megapix will do A3 prints fine. After using the camera all season, I found the waterproof housing great. I feel the only downfall is the Optical Zoom. Get a camera with as much as possible. The Canon is ok with 3x, and you can get close with the housing, but a 10x would be much better.

Curac, I also have the canon powershot A70, which I think has 3x Optical zoom and 10x Digital, problem being you need a tripod to get full use out of optical zoom (...as shaky old alcoholic hands of mine shudder too much to get a clear close-up of those topless sheilas at the beach... )

The thing to remember is that they chew through the batteries, so best to get a charger, then you need a bigger memory card, then a nice case, then you don't have much change from $900 when you go in to look at their $650 special.

The A70 got 9.5/10 in some digicam magazine test, where they oly deducted .5 due to the silly noises it makes (that can get a bit annoying).

Printing is made easy with late model printers (approx $500) - I use(should say My Wife uses) HP that has slots you can put your camera card straight into to print from. Paper can be pricey too, but beats paying what $15 to $20 for 24 exposures???

i would imagine if it has a fast shutter or fast imaging.. or what ever it is on digital cameras.. that it wouldn't really be an issue.. you just get a smooth motion going.. and click off where you want

I brought the S1 IS last weekend for $810.00 at Harvey Norman. Tried it out last weekend and it takes great stills and video footage through out the zoom range. Hopefully I can get the other half to come down this summer to get some action action shots of me blasting at Safety Bay.

You can actually buy disposable water proof cameras for about $20, to have a play with. We used some in Maui, tied to a boom, went out to the reef and took turns taking shots of each other while sitting on the board. Even try to take shots while sailing but the viewfinder was too in accurate so mostly ended up missing half the shot. There were a few different brands, some were quite reasonable while others were crap, can't remember which was which. I'm just about to buy a waterproof casing for my Sony Cybershot, it's about $180. The casing fits the whole range of cybershots, from a fixed lens 2mp $200 job to 5mp 3x zoom number.
