thanks for asking, i guess i am just stumped about the whole thing and just needed a rant.

its abit complicated, i basically work under CEO, owner and the director, that's 3 different ppl i have to satisfy, they promised the world in the interview but its just bull****, i am there to do their dirty work (ie organisation), i am under probation so no real options because they can say or make up any thing they want at the end of the day a decision was made, no warning...

sorry but just a rant...

starboarder. Mate, every day a new option comes by, some you see, some you dont. Hang in there, you will do OK
My brother went same road as you, although a few years back now. Bloody shattered him to be made redundant, no pay out, just "well its too tight, so ya gotta go"
Three months, with such a small cash injection, he was off the ground. Did it real bloody tough for many years, scraping by.
He now employs 14 people. And the best bit, he worked hard at it, and bought the Company he was dismissed from, at "his" price, after 10 years in business.
He reckoned it felt good watching his two old bosses, mumble how it was the biggest mistake of their business venture to let him go, as they signed over their Company to him.

The grounds are the company is going broke and can no longer afford your services Unfortunately as it goes for "toe cutting" unskilled are the first on the hit list. This is happening across the board on a wide range of companies at the moment. What is your age ? The only certain future for Australia i mining (id question that with the gfc)and the petrochemical
industry.

As Mineral said - a door closes...

When I was an apprentice (joiner) working for what was a large joinery that employed about 40 guys in a small city, I worked pretty hard to get into a position that I thought was safe in the company - ran a section with 3 guys working under me and answered directly to the boss...out of the blue the boss calls all the apprentices (about 10 of us) into his office & hands us our marching orders - on a Thursday afternoon at 5mins before knock-off.

Turns out that our (gov't employed) 'apprentice supervisor' tried to call his bluff as the boss had a couple of apprentices that were no good & he wanted to get rid of them (they were basically drug-smoking fk-ups). Anyways, the supervisor said that if the boss wanted to get rid of one, he had to get rid of all...! The boss was an arrogant pr!ck, and didn't handle challenges to his authority too much, so we all went.

As I walked out the door past one of my 'elder' colleagues (trying to hold back the tears of shame) goes "don't worry mate, you'll look back one day & be glad that this happened". Now if I hadn't had both arms full carrying my toolboxes, I would've dropped him!

As it turned out he was right, about a year later the company went into 'liquidation', sacked 80% of their staff (no accruals, super etc.) and started the next day under a different name - still operating today & triple in size. I've had opportunities that I would've never had because of leaving that place & never looked back.

That's workplace politics for you, my guess is the CEO, owner or director stuffed up big time and needed someone to blame.

Also sounds like the liquidation was a way of stealing money from other people by not paying out debts.

Hope you find something better.

Depends if the boss likes you. That's the most important thing, you can smash the work out, run the company like a machine but if the boss doesn't like you, it's over.

It has nothing to do with you and your just as likely to be sacked/pushed out for being a good worker as being deadwood, so I wouldn't take it so personally.

The only thing that annoys me is even though your a good worker, gaps in the CV never look good.

^^^ The opposite in a small business...if you're a productive employee that covers your wage, overheads & then some, it doesn't matter if the boss hates you, he/she won't let you go because you're making him/her money! (keeping it pc)

Maybe we should be pollies??? 30% pay rise just announced! Personally, I think that they're underpaid, but in these times when there are so many without work, how can they justify a hike like that?!

I've seen it in small business too.

Pollies get paid sweet FA compared to what they could be earning outside of government. Most are lawyers.

Ps I would never work for a woman.

Dude, don't sweat it.

2001 I had been working for Dell all over the world, and in 2003 I joined a small local IT company... they didn't really have much, but they had a little IP (Intellectual Property).
I helped redevelop their product range from the UI to a really cool AJAX type framework (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AJAX).
The GM (really good man) was impressed so he pimped our framework at the big banks... by 2006 we were in every Australian bank managing their Risk/Compliance (COSO en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Committee_of_Sponsoring_Organizations_of_the_Treadway_Commission#Key_Concepts_of_The_COSO_Framework, SOX en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarbanes%E2%80%93Oxley_Act and Basel II en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basel_II)

I had a nice office, onsite massages, anything we wanted to eat/drink, Christmas parties at Sydney's best restaurants, free money to gamble at the casino...

Then I started pushing to use a different underlying tech to deliver our software... it would require a fair amount of investment but would take us forward with multithreading, etc.

The company got a buyout offer from another Aus company... the directors approved the deal... the new owners took my nice office with a view... stopped my massages... and 1 day ~6 months in to the new ownership the new COO call me and other 2 people in to his office and said: Your computer accounts are being disabled as we speak, you have 20 minutes to say your goodbyes and leave the building.

4 weeks pay, and that was it.

In 2008 they sold the business to the 2nd largest software company in the world. Prior to that a lawyer contacted me offering $5000 to sign a document confirming the companies IP rights... I didn't sign.

But I didn't patent my AJAX/JSON type framework so I don't really have a leg to stand on... and in reality Dell probably own it cos that's when I wrote it, but I also had my own company and our contract wasn't really binding.

Anyway welcome to the world.

I think ethical credit is better than $ credit... but others don't, so be prepared to be farked by everyone who can fark you.

Pollies ought to get a payrise based on their productivity like they say for everyone else. Give them nothing I say
