what can you do !! move to another state , work in the snow for the winter , get a job inside so you cant see the sky just in case it gets windy and if that all fails take up kite surfing . the first time i rolled out the kite i was lost where does all this sh#*t go i had no idea so i just went over and asked someone setting up a kite how to do it , i was surprised how helpful kitesurfers are . after a ten minute show and tell i said how hard is it to learn , he asked a few questions i said i had wind surfed for 6 years and would never stop , but i need to be able to get out on the water every day ,so my idea is to kite to 15knts and than windsurf .
He said that i would have no problem and with in 10 hours i would be able to rigg , launch by my self , get on the board and return ,i thought no way .
8 hours later i was doing just that . you cant beleive how easy kiting is . How great to have the best of both worlds with out being bi.
NO Longer do i have to sit on the shore and bitch about no wind cause when it hits 5 kths i am there full power bustin moves thinkin why did i not do this sooner there so many knockers of kiting out there . thats because they have not tried it .
remember strangers are just friends you have not meet yet .So next time there is no wind get out there .....gooooo oooonnnn you wont be dissapointed

100% agree...good compromise with lack of wind.
good to hear a you are now bi Mike (or tri if still surfing)
definitely one of the easiest water sport to learn hey? (maybe after Wakeboarding), although need to be carefull with few procedures to keep it safe.

so true, I was surprised too but maybe haven't kite enough to meet the as**oles.

, as for mr greenie you can pick up a complete kite set up for less than a night out in kingscross . a kite for you say 12m,14m 1 to 2 seasons old $300 - $400 with bar, lines and pump . a board $100-$150 get a large twin tip there the easiest to learn on and you are away

Greeny Kaos is a "bargain Bazz" He's amazing at finding bargains! Stick with him and you'll be kiteing in a week. He also picked up how to kite in a few hours by himself with just a few tips from people!

Yeah, kiting might seem like an ideal light-wind alternative to some windsurfers......a novel distraction to be played out in pus winds.

But be warned, after you have acquired some skills, the kitesurfing could take over as the windsport of choice. My windsurfing gear hasn't had a saltwater bath in over 4 years. It sits in the shed collecting dust, a sentimental reminder of a previous addiction.

However, the danger factor of kiting (not to mention the co$t) will discourage many windsurfers from making the cross-over. Windsurfers know only too well how powerful mothernature is. Which is fine by me because I hate crowds. (Strings)

FOOTNOTE: I only kite when it's 15+ and waves.

it really depends what kind of windsurfer you where? the kind that has 8 cams and go back and forth and never get wet cause they dont like water ,or do you only go out in 20+ knts so you have enough speed and air to land double forwards . both are windsurfers but do it for different reasons.
as kiting it seems to be less technical than wave or free style windsurfing it understandable why you would change from one to the other and why more people learn to kite than windsurf .
After all its not much fun to stand on a board thats to small with no wind and a big sail for weeks on end watching every man and his dog sail past.
just grab a kite and in a week you will be blasting to.
Its difficult to say that you will give up one ,because one is better than the other , why not just enjoy both if you are lucky enough to be able
As for the cost i brought 2 kites complete, bars, lines, pumps and harrness 2 boards all in perect conition for less the the price of sail and mast (and there not even hot) .Kiting is the cheepest wind sport you could get in to . if you think its to expencive you should change where you shop
