I just want to throw this out to hear what others think about it.
Last year I was registered for the nationals for the race and for the big air comp. I paid $100. Unfortunately, the wind was very light and I wasn't able to get going on my 12m and the twin tip. The big air comp never happened because after the presentation most of the officials started to clean up and the riders on the water were left alone with their jumps.

However, I am just wondering how $200 can be justified when you already have to be an Aksa member paying $135. Overseas you pay around $75 for the nationals. I also remember that for the PKRA tour at the Gold Coast in 2010 the registration was under $100.

Let me know what you think without making unnecessary jokes ;-)
Cheers

Probably has a lot to do with who is organising it / sponsoring it I would think.

it does seem a bit steep. they might not have enough sponsoring or they just don;t really want any random entering because they might only want the serious competitors.

I don't know..

hey guys,
we understand that $200 is not the cheapest rego for event.
However, we are putting on a top event on and off the water which isnt cheap. Same asd last year in Alva we are trying to wow all people coming up for it. Last year everybody was super stoked!

Moreover, the sponsorship commitment and support from the kiting industry and corporates has been pretty bad this year and it will cost us to put on the event.
These are basically the reasons why the Rego bumped up from $150 last year to $200 this year. Kitestock for example was $250 rego.

You can see what is included in your rego fee here:

whats the go with registering? Can we register and pay on the day, or register online and pay on the day? As the magnetic island race is on sunday, do you plan to have all the other events done by saturday?

We strongly suggest that you register before the 7th June to avoid long line up and waiting times.. the already registered riders gonna be in the water riding while you wait.
If registrations are not done by 1pm then it will drag the start of the comp back.
People that register after 1pm will go directly in the doubles or miss out on some races.

The Maggie Island to Mainland Race time will depend on wind. Most likely we will be on the 9.30am Ferry and start the race around 11am.

Everybody should be back in Pallarenda by 1pm to continue with the Freestyle/Racing Comp at 2pm. That is if we do not finish all comps within the 3 days prior to Sunday.

Only 5 peeps registered so far!! $200 is nothing for whats going to be provided - same with last year it was excellent food and plenty of it. The music, food and t's were worth the entry fee and this year there looks like even more on offer.

No point in comparing to other events overseas as the circumstances of each event, sponsorship, costs and funding is different.

Well, apparently it is too expensive.... Otherwise more would have already signed up.
Asking twice what you did last year is clearly exagerated. You may have worked harder on the organization of this event but if almost no one is willing to pay that much money then you're screwed because the money has been spent already.

It's not about what YOU think it's worth but about what people are willing to pay.

Just pay up you cheap bums! I hear frisbees start up costs are quite reasonable if you're looking for a cheaper option... Sounds as if there is a lot on offer for your 200.

Next topic...

that only 5 people are registered so far is because people always wait to the last minute.
Dont worry there is a lot of people coming! We know of over 100 people already confirmed so they only ones that are screwed are the ones that stay home because they miss out on a sick event. Have fun freezing your balls of down south while we kite in tshirts and boardshorts and see the best kiteboarders in the country taking our sport to the next level.

FYI we had over 3500 people over the weekend in Alva and this years event will be even bigger thats why we chose Townsville over Alva.
Most of the people that came last year are coming again because they know that it is going to be another epic event in North Queensland.

Yes it is too much especially when the Qld Events is sponsoring the event like last year for the Alva event. Look at bottom of poster.

Qld events will put in $10-25K for an event It's Extreme in Cairns used it, ARSA Mackay used it and it is only for 2 years. This is In the Loop's second event Qld govt give you the money so you can run an event that doesn't cost $200 for entry fee and no prize money like this one so to run a successful event maybe they need to look at what is costing them so much to run the event. No Prize money and you are all actually thinking of entering?? Kite surfing must be dying asking for entry fee when there is no prize money is greedy. Anyone who has a event in Qld can apply for the money.

oh dear!
1: its a 4 day event- $50 per day is bugger all especially including food, tshirt, free concert..
2: you obviously dont know how the qld events funding works and how much it costs to put up an event like this!
3: there will be price money same as last year
4: kitesurfing is not dying its actually growing a lot
5: the event is internationally sanctioned

Marvin, you put a lot of passion and effort in this event and I am sure it will be a great event again.

Please do understand though that $200 is not the only cost people have to pay. Flights, Accommodation, transport of boards etc add up and it will be more a $1000 event. There are people coming who only start in one discipline such as racing and they pay the same as those who enter all the disciplines.
You say in $50 per day is a lot included. Yes, food, concerts, t-shirts (Are there also girl's shirts available this year?) but I could see that e.g. food is donated from one of the sponsors and therefore, wouldn't be part of the entry fee.
With a registration fee of $200 I could participate in all three 4-day events of the Kitesurf Trophy in Germany.

Don't get me wrong Marvin, you really do a great job. I just think the jump from last years $100 to this years $200 is a bit much.

^^^^hey , at least we have enough people doing the sport to have a contest.

The headlines of our local paper said "Windsurfing dropped in 2016, for a more spectacular sport"
Newspapers dont lie.

Hey whypay4that, just to correct you, we never had any assistance from Events QLD for any 4 of our ARSA events. All of our events were funded by a couple of industry sponsors and lots of help from our local kiters.

Events are very difficult to host and I take my hat off to the team from In The Loop who do a great job. Nationals should be more about the actual competition rather than the after parties. I'd be keen for a BBQ and drinks and guitar around a fire with my fellow competitors rather than a full on music fest with randoms who have no interest in Kiteboarding.

But either way, I will stand and support any person/organisation who makes an effort to host any competition relating to Kiting at what ever cost, because without these people, we may as well kiss kite events away all together.

Support where you can peeps.

See y'all at the start line.

Well said Joe..

Also where are the Wave nationals, for those winging about dollars why not oput your hand up and run an event..
Anyone who runs any event will know far more work and effort then you know about till you've done it..

Why are we more expensive then other countries?
Simple we don't have as many entries.. Other countries and sports have people lined up and may only let you in through qualifiers..

can't wait to get up there and see you there Joe and every one.

$200 is f'all. You spend that in one night at a pub in perth and all you get to show for it is your d!ck in your hand and a hang over (and maybe free coma if you hang out in Northbridge)

At least you get food, kickers, organised race course, sick music, hang out with some crew etc etc etc

Im not going but if I could I would
