Hey guys.

The 2006 freestyle nationals start this week. Has anyone got any info on the riders. Who has entered, who hasnt entered, which WA riders are going to be there etc.

We should also get some tipping happening for the top 3 spots..

Go WA.

congrats on the bub Ryland. I assume that the new arrival has something to do with not making it over this year. I have seen the list of everyone entered and no Jake is not coming but i haven't heard why not.
Looks like 14 out of the 32 field are from vic so home condition advantage to all them including balls and Pat.
I would also be watching this year for Zebb and Ry Griffiths to shine in the flat water conditions. Also Norts has been on fire. I have heard the rat has been doing every trick he used to do but now with a downloop so he will be hard to beat. Go Rat.

the main reason was the bub as its less than a month old. but also being split makes it expensive for two lots of airfares and two weeks off work plus other expenses. so picked waves nats at sunny coast out of the two , that way can take the family too. cheers rich good luck too for the nats.

Are you sure Theresa is going? I've seen the female draw and she wasn't listed. Also spoke to her when in WA and she said she wasn't going?

You've also got NSW's Lee Kav who has been in good form recently! Keep an eye out there for him.

Reckon ur Nick assessment is personal bias, 'rose colored glasses' talk (just joking guys - go Nick)
Seriously though ....
Spotted Lee Kav sizzling hot at his secret training ground recently. Looking every bit like a serious 06 contender IMO

My personal 'Best Bet' tips for the gamblers looking for the high paying outsiders ...
1) Marine Sudre NSW
Look out girls this hot little newby is about burst [}:)]
Stylish, young & fearless - if she doesnt quite cut it this year my guess is she'll definately be the one to beat in 07.
2) Dale Stanton WA
May not be quite there yet but there's no-one trying harder or improving faster (that I know of). Ur looking good Dale

Someone should start up a book - any bookies out there

Dale Stanton for National champ. Everyone was out today at Latona beach. Zebb, Rich, Theresa, Paul Jackson etc. Gusting up to 30, some good kiting, but Dale standing out and looking very relaxed.

I'll drink a cold beer if he doesn't win

What do they do if the wind/conditions aren't the best? For example tomorrow arvo they're predicting up to 15 knots, do these guys put up big kites? Then later on they're predicting northerlies and stuff, not the best for kitesurfing at st. kilda, so what do they do then?

Just curious.

Thanks
James

Presumably that was Altona hirschausen said they were kiting at, coz there sure was JACK going on at St Kilda.
The KBV website assures me that they are staying in St Kilda and thaT THEY kick off at 3pm today.
See the Cabrinha tent and a lot of beer being drank but not much else... except for Alex on the next beach flying his foil.
Looks like if the wind conditions aren't the best then they drink beer....I'll drink to that..

John. You roving reporter on the beach

Well I've just been down to St Kilda and nothing happening.

The posters describe a 12pm start, but nothing doing.

I know it's a 30knot northerly, but at least the tents or something should be there.

Have they decided to move and not tell anyone?

well, to fill in some info, we moved down to point Henry near Geelong, an hour drive but well worth it as we pretty much almost got all the first elliminations up to the open finals complete, juniors, ladies and masters all completed. Still planning the double ellimination tomorrow, starting at 2pm at st kilda at this stage.

The spot is 2ish feet deep with weed patches, wind was good for 7 metrs bows - to 12 meter/13 meters ranging from 16 - 30kts, overall not too bad. Until the dark cloud that was sitting ontop during the open semi finals decided to swing the wind direction 100 degrees and gust to 40 kts with painfull rain it was so hard, and some hail later in the drive back into melbourne, luckily the minute or so lull before the storm gave ppl enough time to avoid any incidences.

the end :)

So far, Theresa is once again womens champ... beating Marine in the finals. Marine did ride very well. Theresa took me out in the first heat I was way overpowered. It was always going to happen anyway!

The mens Open semi consisted of Dan, Rat, Rich, Zebb, but that was stopped half through due to that freaky storm that came Also showing good form was Dale (beaten by Dan for the semi spot), Lee (beaten by Rich after not landing his tricks for the first time of the day) and of course Finchy, beaten by Rat, (yep I'm being bias again ) but only by the L3 Rat landed! That was a great heat to watch.

Hoping for wind tomorrow!
