Hi, I am after some other peoples thoughts on this. I'm around 1ookg been riding 6 months and currently have a 2008 Cult 13.5 and I am looking to get a faster turning kite with more grunt. I'm based in FNQ and am considering either a 2009 14m Helix (mainly because you get a new board as well) or a 14m Swithchblade IDS as everyone here raves about them!

I am assuming everything flys faster than a 2008 Cult, but does anyone know how differently a 14m Helix and a 14m Switchbale IDS compares on turning speed and grunt? And why you would pay and extra $600 for a new Cabrinha?

Cheers in advance

Flown - 08 Helix 12 -09 Helix 10.5 Switchblade IDS 12 & 8

The 09 Helix has changed from the 08. In the 08 model only heavy blokes really enjoyed the way the kite flew. 09 helix however is a really sweet kite. fast turning and grunty. The switchblade doesnt have as much grunt as the Helix but does turn faster and unhook smoother than the naish.

I don't think you would be disappointed with either kite mate. The naish deal is hard to miss though. If you do go with the Naish deal, get the sol over the thorn specially if its choppy waters you kite in.

I would suggest that you get a 12m instead of 14m. I am about the same weight and have been riding 12m SB3 for a few years. I am not sure where you are riding but you should be fine in anything from 17 - 25knts. above 25 gets a bit overpowered.
Cheers.

Cheers - have been riding in Cairns where the wind often can't decide whats going on. So I thought I might get a 10m as well to cover the range.

I'll often spend time on the beach with guys smaller than me with 12m Switchblades who are also waiting for the wind to pick up - so I reckon a 12m would just be too boarder line....

Would anyone pay the extra $$$ for a Switchblade over a Helix and Board - and why?
