im looking for a new kite for summer 2008, probably august/september
i like simple kites! most likely 5 line, no bridals and def NO pulleys

i already have 10m North Rebel though im feeling i need more kite to get going on light wind days 15-20knots. i enjoy this kite but it does tend to stall in light winds

and looking for a 12m, i would like a kite with very good low end, and wont stall or fall out of the sky ever. i wish to use this kite as my main kite for most conditions but anything above 25knots+ i can use my rebel

male
weight 65kg
128 jamie pro
i ride mainly at brighton beach, melbourne

what choices do i have?

new rebel?
im pretty keen on F-one Bandit? im not sure if i can ride with 5 lines
or Flexifoil Ion2 (5 line mode)
or Slingshot Fuel (are they a 5 line?)

thanks
dave

3 others to add for the 5 line option are:

2008 Naish Torch and Alliance, but should be 5 lines
Takoon Furia (bridle or 5 lines)
Best Yarga Pro

Theres a 5 line 11m original series by Newkiteboarding.
It will pull your 65kg around fairly early if you ride fast.
There will be more about the kites sooner or later. They are 2008 kites.

Im 90kgs wet and use a 7m original series when its over 25knts.

You may need to close the trim strap more on your Rebel if its stalling.

have you considered getting a larger board. I was on a 122 at 73 kilos and didn't have the low end I do now on the 10 meter rebel by using a 132 board. I tack upwind fine in 15 knot winds with no stalling issues . have you made the suggested line adjustments posted about the rebel kites sounds like your kite might be in need of adjustments if its falling out of the sky. you into waves or freestyle or wake or all the above.

there was a guy who knew alot about rebels who set my bar and adjusted it for me. because i have pretty short arms the bar was brought closer to me, im pretty sure it is set up right.

though maybe the problem is the 5th line is slightly too short, because it falls forward? i think most time its stalled was when the wind died has off and and cant adjusted the trim strap to power it back up, because it gets jammed!

i mainly ride in the bay, so chop/flat water

You could take an Airush Vapor out for a demo. its a 5 line. A fellow on my beach has one (12m) and raves about it.

do you have a knot on the center lines up at the kite (not bar end) extra knots on the pigtails. put a knot on each of those lines (the 1ft long lines that connects to the center lines ) will shorten the 5th line at between the yolk and the kite to stop it from luffing. mine used to fall out of the sky before I did that.

will that make all the difference if i add an extra knot? how far up the pig tail should i make the new knot? or just ontop of the existing knot?

slingshot fuel come as 5 line and can run as 4 if you like.. I heard rumours of a super simple lenton bar coming next summer as well.. no big plastic bit..

just above existing knot. well doesn't seem much but it might be perhaps 5cm of extra fth line due to the knots being slightly higher as well as the length of line it takes up in the knots themselves ...anyhow made a difference to me and worth a try for couple of seshes...not too hard to untie after if it doesn't do anything for you. it not to do with the 5th line length between the bar and the yolk its about the 5th on the yolk to kite section that matters for your leading edge angle of atack which is where the stability is. do a search on rebel in the review section there is same info on the subject. and a lnk to a web site with images I think too.

The new Delta C shape Bandit is using 2 pulleys at front line to Y attachment points.
this may take it off your list.
However the interest in the Bandit from existing F-one owners means there will be some excellent condition Tribal2's on the 2nd hand market very soon.

Foorked,North is updateing the 'Vario cleat'that will adapt to existing '5th element bar's around the end of this year, so I'm told....everyone agree's that the existing trim system is a pain in the backside when wanting to power back up on the 'fly'. The new system is a suposed to be a better rigging, allowing simpler and easier movement..

the 12m rhino pulls like a 14 vegas. You'd have a spare bar too.
I have a 12m rebel and 12m rhino and are completely different kites.
