are there any benifits of geting a 5th line other than saftey and relaunch?
i use a naish UDS setup most of the time, would be easy to put a 5th line onto it but i hate untangling 4 lines and dont crash the kite often because i usually just cruise.
thanks.

Depending on the kite design, the 5th can be used to tune power during flight.

eg: 06 Matrix 5th line can be adjusted on the fly to alter power or provide additional depower for staying on waves or riding out gusts etc.
Having the 5th tensioned so as to just activate as kite goes through power zona the de-tension as it heads to edge of window gives the effect of smoothing out pull. I think this is how Njpornstar described it.

So pick a 5th line kite that has it adjustable. Also 2 5th line points on kite is better, well I reakon anyway.

5th line is the best safety system for a c shaped kite, hands down. It gets bonus points for making it more stable in the air too. I wouldnt worry too much about using it to trim power, too finicky and it depends a lot on the kite.

5th line lets you relaunch from anywhere in the window without any real swimming, and no matter what you do the lines should be clear even after you throw it on to safety and then get back to the bar.

There is the minor issue of wrapping the 5th line around the kite, but think of it as the c kite's version of inverting, only it happens way less often...

i dont know about it being finicky. i hav a fuel 5th line and all u hav to do is pull and it depowers. i also used to have a 4 line fuel but compared to the 5th is dodgy. i say buy a 5th line. your choice.

You'll be a safer person with 5 lines.
Depends on how much control you want.

The extra line is basically extra control in your hands.
-Cleat the 5th line change the pitch of your kite and remove that hard to edge against power.
-Wipika Wave system
-Crash your kite in waves and theres more chance of your kite surviving. Its like holding your mast when a swell washes over and the kite hovers/half flies on the surface. (Wipika kites have 2 extra strong attachment points for wipeout reasons)
-Depowering release ideal for sliders
-Releasing during Kite loop trix.
-95% relaunch success (if you like attempting trix)
-99% depowering safety leash, basically spinning.( Wipika CLS spins 22 times)
-Stable pulling kite
-increases turning reaction,if correctly tuned

Sorry to mention Wipika all the time but I like the Wipika gear.
Wipika has some good stuff that can be customized and yep I ride Wipikas.
Wish I could ride my Wipika gear more often, in stronger winds that Wipika works well in.
