Got myself a Rebel... it's the first 5 line kite I have bought and I was curious about the tuning of the 5th line.
Is the 5th line on this kite purely for safety...or does it stabilise the leading edge as well? The reason I ask this is, when I depower the kite the 5th line goes very slack and the only way I can see how to adjust it is via a series of knots where the long 5th line leader attaches to the 5th line.

it's for safety and stablility. The 5th line runs through the Y underneath a loop (Small bit of rope) Therefore the 5th line cant pull through this loop so both the leading edge lines (Front lines) and the 5th line are equal in length. When you depower the kite (shorten the front lines) the slack on the 5th line is only from the Y down to the bar. There still in tension on the 5th line from the Y to the kite.
I dont think its really going to cause an issue if there is slack in the 5th from Y to the bar when depowered other than the rope doing a few extra twists. This should be the standard tuning as when the kite is fully powered there shouldn't be any slack in the 5th line.
