Hey,

If anyone can give me any advice on whether to get a 9m or 10m new Rebel. Generally doing 50/50 wave and twiny and aroud 77kg. Ppl suggesting to go 10m and get a 7m for the strong days or the 9m if I'm only to have one kite? Currently riding a 10m Switchblade but going for something with more speed for the wave riding.

Thanks

... more kites the merrier.

Depends on a heap of factors but in my opinion get 10 and 7m.

Read somewhere here that the 9m is different to all the other sizes in that it is not tuned to go faster or slower but a feel all of its own. 14m to 10m made a little quicker, 8 to 5 made a little slower or rather easier and not so punchy in gusts so the only odd one out is 9m. What it actually feels like is a mystery til guys test it.

Anyway, just one opinion, take with a grain of salt!

cheers,

If you have the money quiver up as you will be covered for a huge range. Flying a kite in its sweet spot is when you have the most fun.

If not go the 9m. In my opinion the 9m is usually the best in the range on most kites. My 9m (another brand) certainly is but i have a few kg's on you and that makes a difference.

Hey what wind are you riding in - mostly? Makes sense 9m for one kite, but these are very grunty kites, one kite would limit your top and bottom end quite a bit.

One thing I have found is they say my 8m is from 16 to 30 or at least the bottom end is 16 - now I'm 85kg, and at 16 I was nearly holding ground - more so than not. While other kites I have flown if they say 16, it would be 18/19 minimum for me to do that - always added a few knots.

Advice I was given, base your quiver around where 80% of your time will be on the water. Have as much money in the air, not sitting in your shed. Look at the wind ranges specified. Although I know some crew like robbie have taken their 7m way beyond - but he's experienced and all that.

For mandurah, lighter winds than perth - went 11m/8m, if I was in perth 10/7m, if i was in gero, 9m/6m etc etc....where do you kite man, what's the wind like?

If you have been happy with power of 10m switch and you're after speed go the 9m rebel if you wanted more bottom end than what you have had go 10 but you will want 7 for when it picks up
Hope this helps

I ride Fuses 10m and 7m and have flown the rebel which is very similar in speed and power. I weigh 85kg now but was 90kg when I demoed a 9m fuse which had me going upwind in 15 to 17 kts. with your weight and the surfboard option aswell it should be a 9m for sure good for 15 to 25+ and then I reckon a 6m for 25 to 35+.

I think the 9, 7 combo will overlap too much.

Where are you mainly kiting, if you are in WA smaller kites, not sure about Vic, but Qld you may want to go with the 10.

I would expect the 10 Switch and 10 Rebel pull about the same..

As another thought, on waves you want the smallest size kite that suites you conditions as it is more manoeuvrable. - Go 9

I ride a 9m rebel in perth metro and it is seriously up there with the best all rounder. great in the waves or just free riding.. 18 knots plus and your laughing. having a smaller kite would be good for those extra windy days though so depends on your cash flow. I'm married so the 9 is a good all rounder, only cause I am banned from buyng more kites:(
