For those of you interested in video production i have just set up a facebook page

I will be regularly updating it with shooting techniques, technology tips, editing techniques and updates from various video shoots

this is the sort of work i do professionally

With cameras being so cheap now (not to mention the explosion of DSLRs that shoot amazing video) I know there is alot of interest in video production - from Go Pro users right up to 5d mk 2 photographers who are dabbling in the amazing video aspects of their cameras.

If this sounds like you please have a look here

not sure if your trying for a steppy look on your slomos, but using some pixel flow analising software/plugins would help smooth things out and make it abit easyer to watch.... or the obvious over crank the cameras frame rate and play it back at normal speed...

nice shots and editing tho! very watchable

OH and on the kiting stuff...... where the cameras attached to the kite.. you could do some awesome stuff with stabilising effects... i know its abit of work but when done well it looks awesome.. that Lord Howe footage is awesome!!

Hey Merman.. good advice but

Can you tell me a bit more of the techniques you are talking about? I use Gopro on most stuff and designed a stabilizer for my linemount but the image is still not as smooth as a hand-held device, alhough a lot better.

See: www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150257200081018.369272.619161017

I use Premiere Pro but I am nowhere near in control of the program as I would like [}:)] so if you have a couple of tips you can pass on about stabilization I sure would appreciate. Considering of course I am by no means an expert editor.. but knowledge takes no space in my big head so input, input, input.. it's all good.

PM me if you prefer. Cheers

V

@ Sir V

What im mostly referring to is digital stabilization techniques ... theres a fair few programs that use them...

but your stepping more away from editing and more into Compositing/VFX work (which happens to be my job).

Some of the programs that use these type of stabilizing tools are "After Effects" , "Nuke" to name a few.... do a google search on " stabilizing software " as the choices are vast!!!!

I personally use Nuke, which is an overall Compositing package and might be abit over whelming... It has a 3d camera tracker and you can do all sort of amazing **** with it, to say the least... the program is a bottomless pit of learning so be warned! :P

BUT

if approaching it from a more manual side... you could place and axis (to rotate from) buy judging where the central pivot point is on your image... and manually rotate the image to keep it stable!! this is what theyve done in , what i think i first saw in the Naish training videos... and a hand full others!!

the number one plug in for action videos - if i could only live with one -would be twixtor

it allows your computer to build between frames and create nice slow motion

footage slowed down without it just looks yuck - so i would advise anyone to look at getting and mastering that plug in if you shoot action of any sort.

That lord how kiting footage was suffering from some serious jello

- there are plug ins that allow you to deal with that - and the new final cut Pro X has it built in (releasing later this month)

its a trademark of these new affordable larger cmos sensors unfortunately
