Has anyone had a kite wondering if it is any good as i will be calling past there on the leeuwin is there any beaches or do you have to boat launch is the wind steady and good is it offshore cheers
You will need faster backup than a slow old tub like the Leeuwin. Massive tiger sharks lurk the area. I saw half dozen out there over the weekend in 2m water
abrolhos islands is one of the last places if not the last place i would be anywhere other than a boat pulling in fish . ****ing buckleys of me getting in the water there .
Spent 3 days there late feb this year, we were in a low wind period, but I'd have to say it looks like one of the best kite spots in Australia. Heaps of small, low islands orientated in all directions, kilometers of shallow lagoons, and good waves on the outer edges, and it regularly blows 30kn +. Check it on google earth.
Yes its remote, and yes it has some big sharks in the area, but I was in the water 3x a day on snorkel and didn't see anything to be worried about. Would love to get back there with a kite.
hey dude, i went spear fishing/ fishing/surfing/ kiting there last year!
such a awesome place... you have to hit the place when there is a bit of swell in gero... but it doesnt matter on wind direction as there are so many different spots you can kite and surf... as it is islands..
i had to boat launch.. i just set my lines up on my kite on the island then rolled them up still attached to kite then just pumped up then swam out from the back of the boat and the boys launched me... kitesurf this cool reef break where the boys were spearfishing...
but i rate the place.. i wouldnt get to concerned about sharks.. they are there but hey we were spearing every day for 5 days and only saw 1 2.5m bronzy that was very interested with the fish hanging off the weight belt :P
def wouldnt mind doing a full kite/ surf trip there... just the boat charters are a bit pricey.. we used the reel affair... good lil adventure :)
