After reading many posts on here, I personally think the whole red / green thumb thing should be removed as it brings out the imaturiy of Punters and Brand bashers.... We all know it happens.

We also know that on avarage, out of a thousand read hits - 4 or 5 thumbs can remove a coloured line ... So in no way at all, does it represent true public opinion either!

Other sites dont have this - as they would rather have people be identified and explain their 2 cents worth.... agree or disagree. No hiding behind aprons !

Letting a prospective person with little knowledge get an informed oponion from the pros and cons..

Right or wrong, for many - the red thumb fear can shut down a persons creative and potentially valuable input... That means we all lose

A great updated website with an outdated vote system that discourages input...

A bugfix maybe necessary to get rid of a background virus on here

Nonsense...

Why read so much into a single click of the mouse???
Who is scared of posting in fear of receiving a red thumbing?
Bigger issues out there in the world IMO.

lol, thats pretty funny...

Untrue. A lot of people do not reply coz of RT fear...
Bigger issues yes, but this is an issue as well and ignoring it doesn't make sense.

Mind you tho, only admins know who is giving a RT. Let's ask them, would they give this out?
All RT's can be logged. All usernames can be logged when voting. Scary thing to reveal.

It would be interesting to see a little graph below everyones name that goes from green to red depending on how many green or red thumbs they have given out.

I think there would be some people that would be fire trucking red!!!

I don't really care about thumb system. As a long standing member of Seabreeze if I have something to say I say it regardless of being worried about being red thumbed.

It is quiet clear that it has changed the forum's and how people have changed to seek approval from others on a forum. You do not see the banter that use to go on anymore and in a way it is a form of blind moderation, which is great in a sense to clean the site up and in a bad way when an introvert who does not like to ask the silly question is slammed by red thumbs, it might not be silly to them..

As a moderator on 2 other websites/forums this topic has been discussed by many and I will do my best to see this system is never adopted..

I give my hat of to Laurie he has a fantastic site with many great attributing members and I'm sure it will continue to be.

To have a members profile seen as a green or red approval is outrageous new members would decline, existing members would stop posting and I'm sure any ? asked or information given by a member would be based on this. Change is a move forward however people are strange creatures and there is no point bringing people down for what you may perceive as stupid.

Not 100% sure you got what I meant, I only meant it would go red if you constantly red thumbed other posts.
So if you didn't red (or green) thumb anyone it would stay white even if your actual posts had constantly been red thumbed by others.
I believe something like that may stop people red thumbing a perceived stupid question.

I am not saying that I want this either just saying it would be interesting.

I use another forum where your total of positive and negative karma score is displayed under your name.

If you get too much negative karma you cannot post for a while.

There are rules that control how much karma you can give out.

It is possibly the most civilised and productive forum I have ever seen. There is still plenty of vigorous debate. There's still plenty of good guys and bad guys.

There is not too much whining about the receipt of -ve karma.

You cannot post unless your real name is displayed.

The forum is tightly moderated so threads stay on topic.

I would rather click on a green or red thumb to indicate approval of a posting rather than waste time and words correcting some bozo on the internet.

PS A properly moderated forum would have moved this topic to the General section ages ago.
