Hi guys,
Following my luck at Kitestock, I am in the glorious position to chose a new board from one of the Airush stable.
I have had a look at the brochures and the boards, but would appreciate any advise seabreezers can offer me on what the boards are like to ride.

I am 65kg, a bit of a woose mainly just cruising with a few jumps and trying rolls and gayleys, and a hankering to get going on waves. I doubt I will ever be good enough for hard core unhooked or kitelooping freestyle stuff!

Which board do you think will be good for me?

129 Protoy, its allltime good in the waves nice and smooth and good pop!

Hi Knickers,

I'd have to agree with Bellsie, the Protoy would be the best choice if you want it to do waves as well. It rides a little stiff though, so maybe check out the X-Pact 126 or 132 also, it will have a lot more flex which will make it more comfortable to ride in nasty conditions ie everywhere but Woodies or Augusta.

Nic,

If you like your current board on flat water keep it and look at getting a 138 Hammer for the waves and chop.

138 Hammer is all round great board

some crew say they are power hungry and dont go up wind
i have to disagree with that as i can power up wind no probs
even in lite winds

I love my hammer 138!!! It's A downwinder machine and eats the chop. You won't be sorry!!!

If you like your current board and its in reasonable nick why change?

Go for something that will broaden your horizons in another area
Like a converse.
Converses are fkn insane boards in every way.
I snuggle with mine often.

not really sure on the chop top when i demoed it,
but you can give my x pact a go and dad loves his hammer
you know where we are when the wind blows

Slack is correct they are the goods get a 138
you cant go past the hammer i ride a Underground 132 flx as well but the hammer for a bit of wave action and taking the bumpy chop out of the water is great.
they are a little power hungry i have found compared to my 132flx but not a problem, excelt resale value cant go wrong.

The Hammer is a sweet board, but apparently the 138 is no longer being produced, I'm not sure about the other size. If you can get one, and you ride choppy conditions, treat yourself.

Out of curiousity, does anyone other than Airush make a Hammer-esque board?

Good luck finding a Hammer.
My mate tried to buy one the other week and was told that Airush (Australia anyway) has completely run out of stock and they won't be any available till next year. That shows just how good a board they are.
I have one and love it, but being my first board and a newbie I have nothing to compare it to.
No probs going upwind on it though, so don't know where that came from.
You say "Following my luck at Kitestock" which Im assuming means you have WON a free Airush board. If so I agree with Poor Relative, get a converse and try something different. Its free after all!

currently have airush switch 144, pro toy 135 hammer 144 and choptop. (I like airush boards!) the hammers are great boards, but the single kiting item that brings me the most joy is my choptop. i love it

havnt tried the converse but have heard good reports, however for the onshore waves we get up here the choptop is great. the klingon things are easy to use (foot hook thingys), and u could always change to straps if you want to. If you are after something a bit different go the choppy... good luck!

Hey Knickers,
I'm with T-one. I own 138 & 144 Hammers and have just bought '09 choptop last week. All great boards.

Hammers are wicked in chop and waves and in IMHO jump nearly as good as anything else if you load them up right.
Not as good as the protoy up wind, not much in it though.

Up until now I used the 144 more than the 138 in waves due to more floatation. Made riding smaller waves easier.

The chop top is my first real venture into waves on a directional board type of board.
Jibing is so easy. Surfing on shore waves / slop is what this board is about.
Do yourself a favour, try the choptop before buying.

I'm with Beer Bong on the Venom, a good alternative and a bit cheaper.

Maybe a bit stronger too,

ooops.

A bit wider than the Hammer but slices the chop well. Shame about some of the Airush boards being out of supply, I'd been keen for a Protoy but was told there were none available for some time.

Good for the second hand market I guess.
