I see there are 12Volt 150ltr/min air compressors available via ebay for about $100. A 12 mtr kite needs about 250 ltrs of air to inflate to 12psi so if the specs are correct it should fill a kite in about 2 minutes.

It would mean pumping up within hose reach or cable reach of your car.

Anyone used one off these with success?

Hey airsail,

Maybe spend $30 for a good high volume double action hand pump. When used on a one pump kite, it will inflate in about 90 seconds and will give you a warm up, a slight stretch and you can pump up anywhere you like. Not to mention the calories you'd burn.

Don't be so friggen lazy!

I wouldn't dare use one for fear of the flack I'd cop from my fellow kiters.

The few people I know who have bought them have regretted it as they phuck up pretty soon after initial use. Not worth the money!

the proper kite pumps are actually two phase, they have a high vol pump phase and then a high pressure phase. I used one yesterday and would recommend it but i don't think you will get one that suits the bill for under $150 but i duno what cheapo versions exist.

The problem with the hand pump is that they are not handling 12 psi very well, handles crack and internal valves blow out.
9 psi is easy, getting to 12 takes some doing and the pumps take a beating.

Hey airsails,

12psi is pretty friggin hard. What kind of kite are you pumping to 12psi? The Ozones we sell pump to 10 psi and that is harder than most brands at the moment.

The new Ozone hand pump does 10 psi easy. I shouldn't imagine it would take much more effort to go to 12psi. The Ozone pumps have a check valve in the delivery port as well as the poppet valves in the pump piston. This eases up the load on the internal check valves. The new ones are pretty beefy looking.

See your local Ozone dealer for a look see. The new ones are a one piece bottom (no seperate base)

HP's need 12 because of the thin leading edge, makes them fast and kind of magical.

Good winds,

Are you for real??? you already cop enough flack for being a kiteboarder as it is, i dont think a little extra flack for using an electric pump is gonna worry ya.
I wish i had an electric pump, man i would use that thing every single session. that is easily the worst part about going kiting.

By the way, if you dont pump up to many kites and make sure you let the pump rest for the reccomended amount of time to cool down, it will last a long time.
