I saw in yesterday's (maybe Saturdays) sunshine coast daily that a kite surfer had gone out in a heavy current at Maroocjy river mouth and rescued someones dog that had been swept out. Apparently the kiter stayed with the dog for about 10mins keeping his head abover water until a guy on a jetski came and helped out and brought the dog in. They said they did not get a chance to thank the kiter but did so publicly in the paper saying that the kiter was awesome and without him the dog would have died. Another rescue that made the paper

Yeah someone told me about this on the beach the other day, apparently the dog was too large to drag in but the kiter managed to keep it alive.

Just a few months ago i kited 150m back to shore there with a young dog that had got swept out into the bar, he was almost dead in the water too. There must be something about the bar that the dogs just love

Don't think so echo - apparently it was a separate rescue

I've had dogs jumping in there to chase me on my kite and nearly getting swept out to sea. It pees me off when people get irate about their dogs on the beach chasing kites - don't they know that they have to have their dogs on a lead on the beach...

Unfortunately or fortunately (depending how you look at it) North Shore is a leash free area, so you're going to get the occasional dog chasing a kite or going for a dip in the river mouth.
